Prep Baseball Report Iowa

PBR Iowa strives to be the most comprehensive source of player information across the state. The Prep Baseball Report is the No. 1 resource for high school baseball in each state we cover through our variety of events, boots-on-the-ground scouting staff, daily coverage, and multimedia platforms. Our multimedia platforms and events work in tandem, ultimately creating the most powerful source of high school baseball promotion in each state.  While other organizations take a national approach, our goal is to become the authoritative voice on the ground level of each state.

PBR:  Why did you choose Kirkwood CC?
HEWS: I had a great connection with the coaching staff, I liked the facilities and the campus. I know they will push me to get to the next level.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
HEWS: DMACC, Iowa Central, Southwestern CC, Iowa Lakes CC and Southeastern Community College.

PBR:  Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
HEWS: I went up for a visit and Coach McKinney came and watched me pitch against Norwalk this year. We just kept in touch since my first visit. I liked that they didn't pressure me and told me to take my time with my decision.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
HEWS: Do whatever it takes to help us win either pitching or playing in the outfield or both.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
HEWS: I would say my USSSA coaches Bryan Goos and my Dad. My Uncle JD Hews. My Iowa Stick Coaches Pat Yacinich, John Mahoney and Troy Troncin along Coach Book and Bill Krejci.

PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?
HEWS: Increasing my velocity, speed, bat speed and putting on weight.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have played against or with?
HEWS: I have played against a lot of good players so it would be hard to single out one, as for playing with I would say all my Sticks teammates.

PBR:  What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for other players who have the desire to play college baseball.
HEWS: Start early and communicate.  I worked with David Conrad at Next Step Sports; he helped educate my family and I on the recruiting process. Take plenty of visits and go to the school that best suits you. Have fun with the process.
