PBR:  Why did you choose Upper Iowa University?
MITCHELL: I chose Upper Iowa because of how beautiful the facilities are and because of how well the coaches and players have treated me over the last 3 months.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
MITCHELL: The two other schools I was considering were Highland Community College in Kansas and DMACC.

PBR:  Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
The coaches first saw me at one of my high school games this summer. Coach Ische texted me a few days after and we have stayed in contact since. Our relationship strengthened the more we talked and after I went on my overnight visit up there.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
MITCHELL: I expect my role the first year is to jump in and compete for playing time. I know I'm going to have to work hard to earn it but that is my goal.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
MITCHELL: My Dad has had the biggest impact on me as a player. He pushed me hard to get me to where I'm at today. He spent countless hours working with me and gave up a lot of time traveling around the country letting me play with Sticks.

PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?
MITCHELL: I've worked on my bat speed and arm strength the most. I've put a lot of time into getting faster and stronger as well. The more I lifted and ran, I could notice a huge difference in my game.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have played against or with?
MITCHELL: I have played with a lot of great players on my Sticks team. A lot of them have already committed to play college ball as well. The best players I have ever played against were Chris Comito and Grant Judkins. Chris is in AA with the White Sox organization as a pitcher and Grant is playing for the Hawkeyes as a position player and pitcher.

PBR:  What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for other players who have the desire to play college baseball.
MITCHELL: The recruiting process is long and stressful but in the end it plays out perfectly. My advice for any other players who wish to continue their baseball careers after High school is to keep an open mind and visit as many schools as possible. The more you visit the easier it will be to narrow down and ultimately find the right school for you.
