Prep Baseball Report

Freshman Winter Standouts

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

There have been several preseason events held in the last few weeks and many players stood out in advance of their high school seasons starting. The last few Hotlists have looked at some of those players by class. We highlighted winter standouts from the senior, junior and sophomore classes. Next up, we have standout freshmen.

Blake Barton, C, Grace Christian Academy, TN
Barton attended his first PBR event this January and stood out for his collection of tools. Featuring an athletic, 6-foot, 180-pound frame, he showed the potential for all five tools. He features whippy bat speed with a lower half that drives through the baseball. He repeats the same swing, projecting to hit for average and power as the frame fills out. He runs a 7.22-second 60-yard dash and has the tools to be an above-average receiver with soft hands and the ability to beat the breaking ball to the spot. He also produced pop times in the 1.94-1.97 second time.
