The Prep Baseball Report Iowa's Underclass Prospect Games took place on August 4th, 2015 at Duane Banks Field on the campus of the University of Iowa. The showcase featured prospects from the 2017 and 2018 class who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff, college coaches, and professional scouts.

Today we take a look at the middle infielders that were at the event. When we create this list we evaluate the overall package of abilities along with future projection at the college level.

Top middle infield Prospects

1. Oliver Martin, 2B, Iowa City West, 2017
6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed hitting player. 6.56 runner. Pull approach. Upper echelon bat speed. Hit multiple balls out during B.P. Somewhat raw in actions at plate and defensively. Premium 3-sport athlete. With additional consistent reps; jumps towards the top of the 2017 class in ability. Receiving D1 interest in multiple sports. High ceiling athlete with great tools. 83 mph arm strength. 94 mph exit velocity. 4.1 home to first time from right-hand batters box.

2. Brayden Frazier, SS, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, 2018
5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Athletic set-up in box. Quiet head with repeatable swing. Line drive swing plane. Shows pop in bat with gap to gap approach. Flashes extension through baseball occasionally. 85 mph exit velocity. Shows solid feet and hands. Tends to funnel baseball into body. Short arm action. Occasional low slot creates tailing action on throws. Works around baseball well. Fast arm. 82 mph arm strength with average accuracy to bag.

Patrick Canby, SS, Mount Pleasant, 2017
6-foot, 200-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 6.78 runner. Physical player. Strength in swing. Square stance with small leg kick trigger. Pulls off occasionally at contact. Mid-pull approach with flashes of power. 91 mph exit velocity. Third base actions and body. Soft glove. Fields better on the move. Short arm action. Average accuracy across. 78 mph arm strength.

Ben Fitzgerald, SS, Mason City Newman, 2017
5-foot-11, 155-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder. 7.31 runner. Tall athletic stance. Quick hands to baseball. Balanced. Solid hand-eye coordination with hard contact to mid-pull side of field. 84 mph exit velocity off tee. Fields out front with soft hands. Average feet at shortstop. Inconsistent timing with load at this event. Short finish through contact. 76 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows good hands and feet in field. Consistently shows ability to make routine play. Sam Olson, SS, Dowling Catholic, 2017
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.53 runner at this event. Above avg. defender in middle of field. Fields out front with plus hands and good feet. Actions are solid. Short repeatable arm action and arm should continue to improve. Consistently on bag at 77 mph. Athletic set-up in box. Inconsistent timing with stride. Solid contact with gap to gap approach. Ability to drive ball to opposite side of field. 78 mph exit velocity off tee. Strong follow in 2017 class.

Nathan Chasey, SS/RHP, Gilbert, 2018
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.4 runner. Square stance with in-line stride. Good balance. Level to uphill swing plane with lift. Quiet head. Gap to gap approach with consistent solid contact. 74 mph exit velocity off tee. Plays low to ground with clean exchanges and quick release. Glove and feet are solid. Throws occasionally have sinking action to target at 71 mph.

Parker Ridge, SS, Marion, 2017
