PBR IA COMMITMENT SPOTLIGHT

PBR: Why did you choose South Dakota State?
HUSAK: After going there for a couple camps and taking my visit, it just felt right. The coaching staff and campus are great and the facilities are top-notch.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
HUSAK: Before I chose SDSU, I was considering Western Illinois, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Iowa Western, DMACC and Iowa Central.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
HUSAK: The coaching staff first saw me at a couple of prospect camps I attended at SDSU. PBR and NextStep Sports helped a lot with the recruiting process and getting my numbers to them.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
HUSAK: Yes, I am very relieved that the process is over. Now I can really focus on my academics, weight room and achieving my goals on the baseball field.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
HUSAK: The coaching staff is at the top. They were easy to talk with and were always honest with me which helped build a relationship.  Also, their indoor facilities were another deciding factor.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
HUSAK: I have had many coaches throughout my childhood that have helped me excel to where I am today. But, I would have to say my parents are the biggest reason for where I am today and all that I have been able to accomplish. They’ve always supported my dreams and have provided me with the necessary tools to succeed and get better. I am grateful for the coaches, family, and friends that have been there for me throughout this journey. I can’t thank any of them enough.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
HUSAK: In the beginning I had a couple of schools interested, then I did a couple PBR events and it really kicked off from there. Then COVID happened which made it difficult for colleges to come out and watch me play due to the virus/dead period. Everyone says it's the best time of your life which the first half was good, but the rest was stressful and difficult. But luckily, PBR, the Iowa Sticks organization and NextStep Sports were able to send videos to colleges.  Fall baseball also helped a lot with my recruitment this year due to COVID because they post a lot of videos and numbers on Twitter.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
HUSAK: I just have to come in, work hard, and compete.  If I do that, I’ll have opportunities to contribute as a freshman as a Pitcher and Infielder. Nothing is ever final so I have to come in every day and work hard.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
HUSAK: First varsity win pitching my freshman year.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
HUSAK: Aaron Downs. That kid can flat out play.
