Prep Baseball Report Iowa

On Sunday, March 8th, Prep Baseball Report will return to SportsPlex West in Waukee, IA and hold its 6th annual PBR IA Preseason All-State event. Perennially, this event gives us an additional opportunity to take a closer view at a number of Iowa's top talents we have seen prior; along with introducing us to some under-the-radar and underclass prospects that have made considerable strides recently.

Over the last five years; over 350 prospects who attended the PBR IA Preseason All-State event have committed to colleges to continue their baseball career. This is year should be no different. The PBR IA Preseason All-State historically brings out the most talented prospects in the state. 16 players in the 2021 class who are currently ranked in the PBR Top 25 for the state will be performing Sunday, including 65 from the Top 100, along with numerous prospects who will ranked soon attending as well. The Iowa 2022 and 2023 classes are represented equally as well; with many of the state’s top prospects slated to attend.

Our staff is eagerly anticipating seeing a strong 2021 group highlighted by 10 players in the class who have already made their college commitments. 2019 Future Games MVP Sam Petersen (Ballard) who has committed to Iowa and Future Games participant Jackson Nove (Cedar Rapids Prairie) to Kentucky, Jackson Wentworth (Waukee) who has pledged a commitment to Kansas State, RHP/IF Owen Puk (Marian) to Florida International and RHP Easton Johnson (Gilbert) who has committed to Creighton, Future Games participant Logan Runde, RHP/UTL, (Dubuque Hempstead) who is set to attend Iowa Western CC and IF Gabe Swansen (Johnston), who will be attending the U. of Nebraska. Three members of the Iowa Hawkeyes in-state recruiting class will be participating with the additions of Gehrig Christensen (Urbandale), SS/RHP Mitch Wood (Ottumwa) and LHP Weston Fulk (Ankeny). The roster is stacked with many 2021 players in the state who are currently ranked- and will look to make an additional impression on college coaches and the PBR staff with their progress as well.

One of only two 2022 grads in the state to have made a college commitment, Tommy Specht (Dubuque Wahlert) who has committed to Illinois, will be in the event. Other top 2022’s to keep an eye on, along with a host of others, include Justin Hackett (Winterset), Kael Kolarik (Indianola), George Sherlock (Dubuque Hempstead), Reese Moore (Forest City), Dillon Kuehl (Urbandale), Aaron Savary (Dubuque Wahlert), Carter Gallagher (Waterloo Columbus), Keegan Schmitt (Independence) and SS Gable Mitchell from (Iowa City High).

Not to be left off; at least one of the top 2023 grads in the state will be in attendance as well with C Max Burt (Mason City Newman).

Look for many of these prospects to continue to cement their prospect status at the event; along with numerous other uncommitted players who are ready to leap to the fore-front in their respective classes. The event has continued to grow over the last five years in attendance and talent. The 2020 PBR IA Preseason All-State event looks to be the deepest and most talent laden event yet.

Excited to see everyone in Waukee on Sunday!
