Through a full fall of competition, winter and early spring events; the PBR Iowa Class of 2021 Rankings has been updated and expanded with 30 more players than the previous installment.

The top prospect in the state is Ian Moller (Dubuque Wahlert), a Louisiana State recruit, who has continued to shine in the national spotlight. Moller has performed exceptionally well against elite competition, and still shows signs of getting better in the future; along with positioning himself as a higher-end draft prospect in the 2021 class.

The athleticism, arm strength and elite breaking ball of RHP Marcus Morgan (Iowa City West), uncommitted, gave him the boost to move up to the two spot in the updated rankings. The wiry, 6-foot-2, 170-pound right-hander features a live fastball that has run up to the low 90’s from a high ¾ slot. The separator for Morgan is his breaking ball, which from a performance and metrics standpoint, ranks as one of the best in the country.

Checking in at #3 is 2019 PBR Future Games MVP- SS/OF Sam Petersen (Ballard), an Iowa recruit, who has all the makings of a future star moving forward. Athletic at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds his speed and arm strength will allow him the versatility of playing in the infield or outfield; while his powerful stroke at the plate will likely provide him with enough juice to hit in the top half of a college lineup.

2-way prospect, RHP/SS Jackson Wentworth (Waukee) is #4 in our updated rankings. The Kansas State recruit has shown steady development in the field and at the plate; but his carrying tool may be his ability on the mound. Wentworth possesses and maintains low 90’s velocity on the mound with an above average breaking ball; all while being one of the most consistent strike throwers in the class.

Rounding out the top five is OF/RHP Brody Brecht (Ankeny), uncommitted, whose pure athleticism continues to impress. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound 2-way prospects athleticism is evident, along with his ability on the diamond, Brecht is one of the host heavily recruited football prospects in the state.

Overall the wild-cards of the class are Morgan and Brecht. Each have impressive tools across the board with high levels of talent on the baseball field. Both are currently being recruited heavily in multiple sports and it will be interesting to see if baseball ends being their respective sport at the college level- or in combination with another sport.
