Q and A With 2015 Northern Illinois Commit: Matt Flummerfelt (Ames HS)

Matt Flummerfelt, SS/RHP, Ames HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Northen Illinois?

FLUMMERFELT:  I loved the facilities.  The coaches were great.  DeKalb is a good town and area.  And it helped I know a couple players that are going to be in the program.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

FLUMMERFELT:  Iowa and Creighton

PBR: Where did Northern Illinois first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?

FLUMMERFELT:  I was playing in a tournament on their field last fall.  It's been easy.  I have a good relationship with NIU recruiting coordinator, Todd Coryell.  I like all the coaches.  He's out-going and straight to the point.  I really like that about him.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?

FLUMMERFELT:  I plan on doing whatever the program needs me to do.  Whether it's pitch or play infield.  Pretty much anything I can do to make the team better and help us win.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

FLUMMERFELT:  My high school coach has had a big impact.  He's been able to work with me since I was young and be able to help me develop as a player.

PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?

FLUMMERFELT:  I think I've matured alot.  Continuing to learn on how to overcome obstacles put in front of me.  I played freshman football and basketball but decided to concentrate solely on baseball and I think it's really helped.

PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have faced in Iowa?

FLUMMERFELT:  Jake Westphal from Sioux City East.  He's is going to the University of Tennessee. Absolutely a HUGE competitor.
