Prep Baseball Iowa Recruitment Overview: Class of 2025

Rob Allison
Prep Baseball Iowa

As we turn the page from the 2024 calendar year, we look back at the members of the class of 2025 who made their college commitments. In Iowa, 162 players announced their commitments to schools – an impressive 21% increase over the Class of 2024 at the same point last year.

While many players have already intended to play at the next level, there remain many uncommitted players from the 2025 class on the board

IOWA'S TOP 25

The commitments in the Top 25 include seven D1 commits in the Top 10, including no. 1 overall Taitn Gray’s recent commitment to the University of Oregon. Beyond that, Milo Kelley, Cole Moore and Tate Slagle committed to the hometown Hawkeyes. Meanwhile, Reed Strohmeyer (Nebraska) and Grant Sorensen (South Dakota State) are crossing the border for their careers while Tatem Telfer is heading further south (Arkansas State).

Outside of the Top 10, names like Will Pierro (St. Thomas), Isaiah Kettler (SIU-Edwardsville), and Sam Kemmer (Sacramento State) are heading to D1 programs. The big winner in landing the most Top 25 prospects is Kirkwood, who has eight commitments in that group. Iowa Central and Southeastern each landed two prospects in the Top 25.

NCAA DIVISION I

Perhaps because of the new roster rules and transfer regulations, the Class of 2025 had fewer overall Division 1 commits than its predecessor with 12 (compared to 19 a year ago). The University of Iowa landed the most commits with three, followed by the University of St. Thomas with two.

NCAA DIVISION II

There were just ten Division II commits in the class, with the majority of those (5) opting to stay in state and attend Upper Iowa

NCAA DIVISION III

There were 34 Division III commits. The American River Conference captured the most split between Central College (9) and Wartburg (7).

NJCAA

The JUCO route is the most popular option for Iowa players with 92 commits. The new program at NICC committed 19 members of the class of 2025 followed by Iowa Central and Southeastern (14 each), Kirkwood (13), and Black Hawk (10).

NAIA

Thirteen players committed to NAIA schools with Mount Mercy and Grand View each landing three.
