PBR Idaho State Games: Quick Hits

Brett Harrison
PBR Scouting Directors

With the inaugural PBR Idaho State Games in the books, we now turn our focus to the post event coverage where we will be breaking down the events standout performances, positional statistical leaderboards and pitcher leaderboards as well as sending out invitations to represent Idaho at both the 2022 PBR Future Games (2024/2025) and the 2022 PBR West Coast Games (2023). The PBR Idaho State Games gave us our first glimpse of the talent in the Gem State with prospects showing present and projectable actions that prove that Idaho baseball is in good hands for years to come. Our goal from this event and upcoming PBR IDAHO EVENTS is out close the gap on recruitment throughout the state with the highest quality event right in your backyard.

At the PBR Idaho State Games, we retrieved a significant amount of data on each player including: 60 Times measured by Swift Syncro, Batting Practice measured by TrackMan, Catch Pop Time and Velocity, Outfield Evaluation and Velocity, Infield Evaluation and Velocity and Pitcher Bullpens analyzed and assessed by TrackMan. We pride ourselves on utilizing the latest technology in the game to provide the most accurate data for both the player and those recruiting/evaluating the player.

PBR Idaho state games: QUICK HITS

DAX WHITNEY

RHP / SS / BLACKFOOT, ID / 2024

The 6-foot-3, 175 pound right hander came into the PBR Idaho State Games as one of the “guys to watch for” and he did not disappoint. After his standout performance on Day 1 of the event, earning an event best 88 mph Infield Velocity, he hopped on the mound on Day 2 during the Game Play portion and dealt. His 88.8 mph fastball came out of a high 3/4 to over the top slot with flashes of deep downhill action. The looseness in the arm and projectability in the long, lean frame make for a very intriguing prospect who we expect to be on more than a few radars this Summer. The secondary mix consisted of a developing curveball that flashed the ideal spin deviation off his fastball, but does shorten the arm cycle a bit with similar arm action on his changeup that has some present heaviness with more lateral movement the farther arm side he goes. Keep an eye on this one.

MCCADDEN EVANS

OF / RHP / POCATELLO, ID / 2023

Evans has the present physicality at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds that he proved an understand of how to use in each part of his game as he found himself at or near the top of almost every statistical category that applied to him front the position player evaluations that took place on Day 1 during the Pro-Style Workout of the event. His 96.0 mph TrackMan Exit Velocity came second in the event while he lead off the Outfield Evaluations with an event best 85 mph Outfield Velocity, where he came in and made sure we knew he had “a lot more in the tank than that”. His performance on Day 1 translated well to the Game Play portion on Day 2 where he short hopped the left-centerfield wall for a loud double. The Pocatello product is an incoming senior with present physicality strength and tools that we expect to generate a ton of interest over the Summer as he heads into his senior campaign.

TREYTON SWYGART

RHP / 3B / MIDDLETON, ID / 2024

Another big bodied, two-way, Swygart had himself a weekend as he set the tone during the offensive portion of PBR Idaho State games with loud batting practice session that showcased flashes of his present power, evident by his 94.1 TrackMan Exit Velocity with seemingly much more the tank. On the defensive side, he showed off his easy defensive actions with his present range expected to keep him at a corner infield position. He capitalized on his performance on Day 1 of the event with another quality performance during the Game Play portion of the event on Day 2 where he turned an a fastball for a sharp single to right field.

BOOMER (RYAN) COLLINS

SS / RHP / CAPITAL, ID / 2025

The rangy middle infielder players with the highly sought after bounce and confidence that you would want to hold down the premium position. He pairs advanced defensive actions with an rhythmic, left handed stroke that found the barrel not only throughout his batting practice session, but during the Game Play portion of the event as well as he registered a hit early, then barreled up a ball to the right-centerfield gap that got tracked down. His compact, 5-foot-9/135 pound frame only adds to the projectability of what is to come as he continues to add size and strength that we expect to amplify each part of his game in the coming years.

COY CLEMENTS

C / OF / MOUNTAIN VIEW, ID / 2024

Clements is a 6-foot-1, 175 pound backstop with present athleticism that he used well throughout the catch and throw process during the Catcher Evaluations on Day 1 of the event where he threw a PBR Verified 1.92 Pop Time with the help of his 75 mph Catcher Velocity, each of which ranked him in the #2 spot in each category. At the plate, he starts in a slightly open, wide based set up with a knee to knee load that works to get down on time into an efficiency, repeatable swing, staying in his legs well throughout. He showcase a mostly line drive approach with some pull side power peaking throughout with much more expected to come as he continues to fill out his lean frame that has the broadness in his shoulders to add significant size.

COOPER THOMPSON

1B / 3B / TWIN FALLS , ID / 2025

The 2025 has an obvious present about him with a “country strong” build where he already stands at a stout 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. The primary first baseman also showed his ability to handle the left side of the infield as well with athletic action that would allow him to hold down the third base position. After his standout performance during the Pro-Style Workout on Day 1 of the PBR Idaho State Games, he racked up a pair of hits during the Game Play portion on Day 2 where he showed his ability to drive the ball to all fields. Thompson was a local product in the Twin Falls area, but the incoming sophomore should be making national name for him this Summer.

BRONSON BROOKINS

C / SS / BURLEY, ID / 2023

Brookins came into the PBR Idaho State Games as a small school prospect that proved he belong amongst the top level of players at the event. He showed obvious confidence in each part of his game with athletic, twitchy actions on both sides of the ball with present quickness in his catch and throw behind the plate. Where he really stood out was in the batter’s box, putting his smooth, efficient leg handed stroke to work during both the Pro-Style Workout on Day 1 and in the Live Game Play on Day 2 where he doubled to the right-centerfield wall. This is a player who we expect to just be scratching the surface of what is to come and could be a quality pick up as he heads into his Senior campaign.

COOPER SMITH

3B / C / LAKE CITY, ID / 2024

The Lake City product quietly had put together one of the events top performances with clean, simple actions throughout his game where he showed off his ability to receive it behind the plate with some present strength in his hands and forearms to go with the quickness in his catch and throw that’s lead to one of PBR Idaho State Game’s Top Catcher Pop Times at 1.94 with each throw delivered around the bag. The fluid stroke from the left side starts with a spread, athletic set up with a slight barrel lift off the shoulder into a short stride for separation. His short, repeatable path to the ball allowed him to not only barrel up balls throughout a line drive filled batting practice session, but translated into the Live Game Play on Day 2 where he turned around a fastball to right-centerfield. Smith is an incoming Junior to keep on your radar out of Northern Idaho.

CHRISTOPHER RICARD

1B / RHP / LEWISTON, ID / 2023

The Lewiston product is another “country strong” prospect that showed he can translate his present physical strength into his game, especially at the plate. It took Ricard only a few swings to announce his presence during the most impressive batting practice round of day where he registered seven 95+ mph TrackMan Exit Velocities with his best earning him the top spot on the exit velocity leaderboard at 104.3 mph. As with most of the players in attendance, Ricard is a two sport athlete and that athleticism came through on the defensive end where he showed his ability to bounce off the bag at first base with quality footwork around the bag. This is another prospect who has the present tools with significant upside as he continues to develop his overall game.
