2021 PBR Third Team All-State

Last week, the PBR Illinois team released its First-Team All-State honors for the 2021 IHSA season. Today, we conclude the 2021 PBR Illinois All-State Teams with a look at the Third-Team All-State Selections.  Given the amount of talent residing in the state, the Third-Team roster is stacked with players who could easily fit in on the First-Team, given the huge numbers they put up this spring.

Without further ado, here is the roster for the 2021 PBR Illinois’ Third-Team All-State.

PITCHERS

Dylan Petrey RHP / Hampshire, IL / 2021

Petrey earned the All-State nod after compiling a 1.40 ERA in 49.2 innings pitched. The right-hander had a staggering 40.5/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio; striking out 81 hitters and only walking two. The senior also boasted a 6-1 record to compliment his stellar numbers.

Easton Harris RHP / SS / Washington Community, IL / 2022

Parkland JC commit. The Washington Highschool junior had an 8-0 record to go along with a 1.27 ERA in 55 innings on the mound. The right-hander struck out 83 opponents while only walking 26 to secure his spot on the All-State team.

Ryan Anderson LHP / Hononegah, IL / 2022

Serving as Hononegah’s Ace, Anderson showed out this year with a near perfect 9-1 record in 62 innings to go along with a 1.16 ERA, 77 strikeouts, 23 walks, and just 32 hits allowed. The right-hander helped lead Hononegah to the State Semifinals as well as an overall 26-4 record.

Lane Funneman LHP / Pana, IL / 2021

SouthwesterN Illinois CC commit. Live, loose-armed left-hander finished the season 7-0 while striking out an astounding 115 batters on the year. Funneman finished with a 0.69 ERA for Pana HS this spring.

CATCHERS

Will Plattner C / Glenwood , IL / 2022

Uncommitted. The junior catcher had a monster year at the plate; notching a .525 batting average with 24 RBIs, four home runs, seven doubles and five triples. The right-handed hitter only struck out four times in 61 at-bats.

Noah Goddard C / Hononegah, IL / 2021

McHenry County JC commit. Goddard played a massive role in his team’s late season success; leading Hononegah to the State Semi-Finals, an overall 26-4 record and a final Power 25 ranking of 5th in the state. The slugger worked a .500 batting average to go along with 40 RBIs, six home runs, two triples and 14 doubles. Two of Goddard’s home runs came deep the playoffs; one in the Super-Sectionals and one in the State Semi-Finals.

FIRST BASEMEN

Ryan Kraft 1B / LHP / Lincoln-Way Central, IL / 2021

Indiana commit. The 6-foot-3 180-pound Kraft boasted a .486 batting average, seven home runs and seven doubles. The future Hoosier helped lead Lincoln-Way Central to an overall record of 21-5-1, as well as a final Power 25 ranking of 22nd in the state.

Al Holguin 1B / St. Rita, IL / 2021

USC-Upstate commit. The St. Rita senior led his team with a .473 batting average, 49 RBIs and four home runs. Holguin also showcased power to the gaps; collecting 17 doubles on the year that would allow him to come across and score 30 times.

MIDDLE INFIELDERS

Nate Mieszkowski SS / Grayslake Central, IL / 2021

Missouri Southern commit. Mieszkowski had some of the most impressive offensive numbers in the state; in 124 at-bats the right-handed hitter only struck out four times, collected a .460 batting average, 41 RBIs, blasted seven home runs, 14 doubles and six triples. The senior slugger also showcased speed on the basepaths; swiping 18 bags on 20 attempts and coming around to score 51 times.


Javier Beal INF / Harrisburg, IL / 2021

Parkland JC commit. Beal helped lead Harrisburg to an overall record of 29-1-2. The 6-foot 190-pound infielder slashed a .543 average, 44 RBIs, 10 home runs, 10 doubles and three triples. Beal also swiped 16 bags to impose a serious threat whenever he reached base.

THIRD BASEMAN

Karson Bonaparte 3B / University, IL / 2021

Notre Dame commit. The 6-foot, 200-pound Bonaparte dominated with a .420 average, 37 RBIs, eight home runs, seven doubles and five triples. Bonaparte also came around to score 40 times on the year.

OUTFIELDERS

Gavin Baldwin OF / Nashville, IL / 2021

Baldwin, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound John A. Logan JC commit, has long been regarded as one of the best players in Illinois and this year was no different. The right-handed bat produced a .469 batting average, 11 home runs, 13 doubles and 51 RBIs. He also showed patience at the plate, drawing 24 free-passes on the year. The athletic Balwin was also perfect on the basepaths; stealing 10 bags on 10 attempts.


Adison Worthman OF / Bloomington, IL / 2023

Uncommitted and just a sophomore at Bloomington high school, Worthman proved he was deserving of his spot on the All-State team showing multiple tools. The right-handed bat hit his way to a .472 batting average and blasted seven home runs. Worthman also proved to be a legit threat on the basepaths; stealing 30 bases on 32 attempts.


Mason Baer OF / Lake Park, IL / 2022

Illinois-Chicago commit. Baer played a large role in Lake Park’s success; leading them to the State Finals as well as an overall record of 33-5. The junior, table-setter, filled up the stats sheet with a .436 batting average, four home runs, six triples and 11 doubles. Baer also went on to steal 15 bases on the year.


Brendan Summerhill OF / Whitney Young, IL / 2022

Kentucky commit. Summerhill possesses some of the most elite all-around tools in the class. Despite Whitney Young playing a limited number of games this spring, the lean 6-foot-3 190-pound left-handed bat put up numbers worthy of an all-state selection. Summerhill ended the year with a .492 batting average, six home runs, five doubles and four triples. The speedy outfielder also swiped 19 bags on the year to compliment his impressive numbers.

UTLITY

Trez Rybarczyk C / RHP / Hall, IL / 2021

Uncommitted. The senior showed a true ability to excel both on the mound and at the dish. The right-handed bat turned in a .500 batting average to go along with 12 home runs, six doubles, 24 stolen bases and 42 RBIs. Rybarczyk also tossed 35 innings on the mound with a perfect 7-0 record. The right-hander allowed just eight hits on the year while amassing 73 strikeouts, 13 walks, finishing with a miniscule 0.4 ERA.


Lucas Montesantos RHP / OF / Hinsdale Central, IL / 2022

Uncommitted. Montesantos played a key part in Hinsdale Central’s successful year, dominating both on the mound and at the plate to help the Red Devils to a 23-4 record. The right-hander finished the year with a spotless 6-0 record to go along with 35 innings, 60 strikeouts, 18 walks and a 1.40 ERA. The 6-foot 180-pound junior proved to be a reliable bat as well, hitting .387 with two home runs and five doubles.


Ben Cash 3B / RHP / Oak Lawn Community , IL / 2021

Illinois Tech commit. Cash put up some of the best two-way numbers in the state. Finishing the year with a .484 batting average, two home runs and 11 doubles. The right-hander also logged 54.1 innings on the mound with a 7-2 record on top of 73 strikeouts, 11 walks and a 1.67 ERA.
