3A Lake View Sectional: St. Viator Tops Carmel

CHICAGO, IL – In the 3A Lake View Sectional Semifinal a pair of ESCC teams matched up for the third time this season. Carmel took the first two meetings of the year by scores of 11-3 and 17-5. On Wednesday the Lions turned things on the Corsairs with an 8-3 victory. 

In the first two season matchups, St. Viator used nine different pitchers, on Wendesday the Lions turned to ace Cole Kmet. Kmet had a rocky first inning allowing two runs to Camel on a towering home run from Eddie Pietschmann. After that first inning Kmet locked in and dominated over the final 4.2 innings of his outing. He finished the game with 12 strikeouts including seven in a row at one point.

Not only did Kmet gets things done on the mound he also added three run homer to dead center field in the fourth inning to push the Lions lead to 7-2 lead. St. Viator took the lead in the bottom of the second thanks to three straight hits to start the inning. Brett DeSelm delivered an RBI single and Casey Kmet worked a bases loaded walk to drive in two of the runs.

Viator advances to play Grayslake Central for the Sectional Championship on Saturday.
