NEW LENOX, IL – The New Lenox 3A Sectional completed its semi-final play today as Lemont blanked Morgan Park 2-0 in the early game while Herscher held off Chicago Christian 2-1 in the night cap. Lemont will play Herscher at Lincoln-Way West on Saturday, June 4 at 11:00 am for the Sectional Championship. Here’s a recap from both of today’s games.

Lemont 2, Morgan Park 0

Junior right-hander Ryan Sublette did it again for the Indians. After going the distance last week in Lemont’s Regional Semifinal win over Manteno, Sublette returned for an even better performance Wednesday in Lemont’s 2-0 Sectional Semifinal win over Morgan Park.

The uncommitted junior showcased his upper 80’s fastball through most of the contest, striking out seven Mustangs along the way while scattering just five hits in his complete game shutout. Morgan Park’s best chance came in the fourth when TJ Byrd led things off with a double followed by a Christian Bullock bunt base hit. Sublette stepped up to the situation striking out a pair after Bullock was caught stealing.

Lemont got RBI singles in the second and fourth innings. In the second Angel Salinas, who finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and run scored, drove in Sublette. Then Salinas scored in the fourth on a Dominic Connolly single to right. Enough to get the Indians to the Sectional Championship.

Herscher 2, Chicago Christian 1

Last year Herscher edged Chicago Christian in the 2A Sectional Semifinals 8-6, and after both schools were bumped up to 3A this year, the outcome was still the same as Herscher knocked off Chicago Christian 2-1, ending the Knights season for the second straight year.

Both starting pitchers went the distance and looked sharp for their respective teams. Senior Matt Alsip, struck out eight while allowing just two hits and one run for Herscher in the win. Junior southpaw Dan Vos was equally impressive striking out 14 Tigers and scattering five hits, unfortunately for Vos and Chicago Christian two unearned runs did the Knights in.

In the first Herscher’s Tyler Fisher reached on a drop third strike throwing error and later scored on an RBI single by Austin Jarnagin, giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

Chicago Christian tied things up in the fourth with a two-out RBI double off the bat of junior Tyler Edgar.

Herscher then took the lead back in the sixth and this time held on. Tyler Jarnagin singled and stole second base, but a throwing error let Jarnagin advance to third, later scoring on a two-out infield single by Alsip.

Alsip would finish off the Knights in order in the seventh, striking out a pair.
