HUNTLEY, IL – In the sectional semifinal game between Huntley and Prairie Ridge, Huntley came up with a 4-0 shutout victory to advance to the 4A Huntley Sectional Championship.

Red Raiders starter Adam Smylie shut down the Wolves for 5.1 innings before giving way to Nick Laxner who closed out the game. Smylie allowed just two hits over his 5.1 innings of work and left with runners at first and second with one out in the sixth. Sophomore right-hander Nick Laxner came in to get a fielders choice and then struck out the following hitter with the tying run on third to end the inning.

Prairie Ridge starter Ethan Routzahn didn’t allow any runs thought the first four frames, but with one out in the fifth Noah Konie ripped a single to get the rally started. After a walk to Joe Rizzo, Brad Model ripped a single up the middle to score Jordan Goldstein who was pinch running for Konie.

After starving off the Wolves threat in the bottom of the sixth, the Red Raiders added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh. With the first two batters getting out to start the seventh pinch hitter Bradley Maurer reached base and came around to score on a bloop single by Trevor Ranallo. Charlie Nugent then came up with his fourth hit of the day to drive in pinch runner Joe Boland. Nugent came around to score on a dropped third strike to make it 4-0.

Nick Laxner then struck out two more in the bottom of the seventh to close out the victory.

Huntley will meet the winner of Jacobs vs. Grant on Saturday for the Sectional Title.
