LINCOLNSHIRE, IL – Warren advances to the Stevenson Sectional final after taking down Prospect 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

Warren’s Ryan Davila, a Heartland commit, delivered the big blow of the game, an eventual game-winning, opposite field homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning. The homerun gave the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead, which held for the rest of the game.

Prospect (21-12) jumped on top of Warren (28-10) with their only run of the game in the top of the second inning. Third baseman Grant Zellmer led off the inning with a double into the right-center field gap. Zellmer was driven in on a groundball double play to the second baseman a few batters later.

Warren senior starter Sam Lamotte, a Grinnell recruit, held the Prospect offense in check throughout, scattering five hits, striking out five and giving up one earned run. He eventually handed the ball over to Davila with two outs and nobody on in the top of the sixth inning. Davila did the rest, spinning a perfect inning and a third to collect the save and advance the Blue Devils to the Sectional final.

Junior, Ben Courtney, got the start and took the loss for the Knights, despite only allowing three hits and the one mistake out over the plate to Davila. Ryan Molini took over for Courtney in the bottom of the fifth and went the final inning and two thirds, striking out two and allowing no runs.

Warren will meet the winner of Mundelein vs. Lake Forest on Saturday for the Sectional Championship.
