DuPage Valley

Wheaton North (7-5; 1-0) won its DVC opener on Monday, smashing Naperville North 10-2. Falcon senior Jake Schieber homered, tripled and drove home three to lead the Falcon attack. Senior 2B Kevin Fahey and senior C Ryan Jordan both had two hits, including a double and each drove home two Falcon runs. Senior Ed Norris fired a four-hitter at the Huskies to pick up the wind on the mound.

Wheaton Warrenville South (8-4; 1-0) outlugged West Aurora 10-9 in eight thrilling innings on Monday. The Tigers were led by Ryan Kelly, who had three hits including a double and two RBI. Tiger Mike Shelton had a pair of singles plating three Tiger runs.

Glenbard North (6-5; 1-0) defeated West Chicago 6-4 on Monday. Junior Matt Frawley (2-2) took a shutout into the seventh to pick up the win on the mound for the Panthers. Panther senior Jack Shine homered for GN.

Interstate 8 North

Lisle (11-4; 2-0) hit Coal City with 10 in the first inning and coasted to a 14-3 five inning win at Lisle Community Park on Monday. Lion junior Ryan Van Volkenberg doubled and homered to lead the Lion attack. Lion senior Ty Howell picked up the win on the mound for Lisle.

Interstate 8 South

Manteno (15-1; 1-1) bounced back from its loss to Lisle in a big way Monday. Led by Panther senior 3B Billy Liss, Manteno smashed Dwight 8-3. Liss homered and had two doubles to lead the Panthers. Liss plated a pair of Panther runs.  Panther junior Jason Morgan improved to 4-0 on the mound for Manteno. Senior CF JJ Witherow chipped in with two hits.

Herscher (13-4; 1-1) was ambushed by Peotone and Blue Devil John Swisher. Swisher fires a six-hitter at the hard hitting and drove home a pair of runs at the plate.

Jackie Robinson South

No. 10 Simeon (11-3; 1-0) rolled past Morgan Park 11-3 on Monday. Sophomore Darius Day improved to 5-0 on the mound for the Wolverines. Junior 2B Ro Coleman had three hits. Oakland-bound Shane Brown had a perfect 2-for-2 day with an RBI.

Mid-Illini

Bartonville Limestone (10-2; 3-0), Morton (10-1; 3-0) and Washington (11-2; 3-0) all won to stay atop the Mid-Illini standings on Monday. East Peoria knocked Metamora (11-3; 2-1) from the log-jam with a 2-1 victory.

Mid-Suburban East

Hersey (8-1; 1-0) defeated Prospect 1-0 as senior RHP Trevor Haas out-dueled Prospect’s Illinois State-bound Jack Landwehr (2-2). Haas fired a two-hitter at the Knights. Huskie SS Tyler Perkowitz had three hits, and scored the eventual game-winner on a Knight miscue in the third inning.

Mississippi Valley

No.22 Highland (9-1; 1-0) defeated Civic Memorial 10-0 in five innings on Monday. Bulldog senior Aaron Kuper was 3-for-3 with three RBI. Junior Joel Mason was 2-for-2 with three RBI. Senior Geoffrey Hartleib (2-0) fired a two-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Troy-Triad (8-3; 1-0) defeated Mascoutah 18-4 in five innings.

Elk Grove (9-3; 1-0) slammed Buffalo Grove 11-1 in five innings on Monday. Grenadier senior leadoff man Jack Czeszewski had quite a day for Elk Grove. The hard-hitting left-handed hitter was 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Grenadier 6-fot-5 senior RHP Eric Guido fired a three-hitter at the Bison.

Rolling Meadows (8-3; 1-0) routed Wheeling 16-0 in five innings as the Mustangs hammered five dingers on Monday. Mustang junior Dan Hendrickson hammered a pair of bombs and drove in five. Senior Mike Olson and Eric Lowe went deep and each plated a pair of Mustang runs. Senior Matt Hendricks lunched a solo shot for Meadows.

Mid-Suburban West

Barrington (9-3; 1-0) defeated Conant 7-3 as Bronco senior Frank Waliczek (4-1) won again. Waliczek struck out 10 in his 5 1/3 innings of work on Monday. Bronco junior C Ryan Lidge had a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI.

Schaumburg (8-5; 1-0) outlasted Palatine 14-13 when Saxon senior Justin Charvat blocked a Pirate PAT attempt…Actually, Charvat had two hits including a double and drove home five Saxon runs on Monday in the Saxons football-score MSL opener. Saxon senior Jordan Grubb had three hits and a pair of RBI. Sophomore Jack Holden went deep with a man on and senior Thomas Byrne chipped in with two hits and two RBI.

Palatine (4-11; 0-1) was led by Bradley-bound Eric Schuermann, who hit two bombs and drove home five runs. Senior Kurt Becker had a four-hit day for the Pirates.

Hoffman Estates (7-7, 1-0) rallied past Fremd 5-3, sending the Vikings to their third straight defeat. The Hawks also gave Viking ace Jack Anderson (4-1) his first defeat. Hawk Ethan Bloom had a perfect three-for-three day at the plate. Mike Gordon had a 2-for-2 day with the game-tying RBI for HE. Hawk Justin Frame drove home the eventual game winner with an RBI single. Mark Roberts went the distance for Hoffman Estates on the mound.

South Suburban Blue

Bremen (11-6; 3-0) smashed TF North 16-5 in five innings on Monday. Brave senior 2B Noel Sanders drove home four for the SSC-Blue leaders.

Tinley Park (8-7; 3-2) blanked Oak Forest 3-0 behind a three-hit shutout by Titan Zach Glowicki. Oak Forest falls to (7-4; 2-2)

South Suburban Red

Richards (8-6; 3-0) crushed Eisenhower 11-1 in five innings behind Bulldog seniors Lou Castro and Vince Boetteger. The senior ‘Dogs both had two hits and a pair of RBI.

Oak Lawn (8-5; 3-1) unloaded on Evergreen Park 18-8 in five innings on Monday. Spartan senior CF Brian Barnhouse was 4-for-4 with a double and five RBI. Spartan senior captain Kyle Smith went deep among his two hit and drove in four for OLCHS. Junior Bobby Kametas (3-0) picked up the win on the mound

Shepard (5-7; 2-2) beat Argo 13-0 in five innings behind Astro junior C Matt Scott. Scott plated five Astro runs in the romp over the Argonauts.

Southern Illinois River-River Ohio

No. 18 Benton (14-3; 4-0) blasted Massac County 14-3 behind a four-RBI day from the white-hot Ranger C Trey Garrett. Senior Mason Childers chipped in with three RBI. Bradley-bound Ty Leffler picked up the win on the mound for Benton. The Rangers will travel to No.20 Harrisburg today at 4:30.

No. 20 Harrisburg (11-3-1; 2-0) blasted West Frankfort 18-1 in five innings.

Bulldog senior Caleb Thompson drove home four Bulldog runs to lead Harrisburg.  Junior Ryne Roper homered and drove home three.

Suburban Christian Gold

Aurora Christian (8-2; 1-0) defeated St. Edward 2-1 behind Eagle sophomore

JT Bashka (4-0). Bashka fired a four-hitter with nine strikeouts against the Green Wave. Eagle senior Kenny McCracken drove home the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth.

Upstate 8 Crossovers

Neuqua Valley (7-3-1; 4-0 Valley) crushed Streamwood 12-1 in five innings. University of Illinois-bound RHP Nick Blackburn (4-1) fired a four-hitter at the Sabres with seven strikeouts. Blackburn had three hits including a homer and drove home four Wildcat runs. Blackburn’s battery-mate junior C Dylan Goss had two singles and a bomb. Wildcat junior Jeff Evak tripled, singled and plated three Wildcat runs.

South Elgin (5-2; 2-1 Valley) defeated Geneva 4-2 behind a seven-hitter from Storm senior Eric Statzy. Statzy helped himself with a pair of RBI at the plate.

Geneva (7-2; 2-2 River) RBI came from junior Anthony Bragg and senior Bobby Hess. Stetson-bound Matt Brandys doubled and singled in three trips to continue his torrid hitting.

Lake Park (5-4; 2-1 Valley) smashed Elgin Larkin 13-6 behind a huge day from sophomore Anthony Gallina. Gallina singled and had a pair of doubles while driving home four Lancer runs. Lancer junior Dom Romito had three hits, including a double and drove home three LP runs.

St. Charles North (5-4; 3-0 River) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to stun Bartlett 5-4 on Monday. Wright State-bound John Brodner tied things up at 4-4 with a sac-fly. North Star junior C Ryan Thomas ripped the game-winner and the fans on the Northside of St. Charles went home very happy.

Nonconference

No. 6 Nazareth (12-0) defeated Riverside-Brookfield 7-1 behind Roadrunner senior LHP Dom Purpura (3-0). Purpura fired four scoreless innings against the Bulldogs to pick up the win. Purpura’s junior battery-mate Mike Stromberg continued his hot-hitting with a 2-for-2 day with a double and an RBI.

No. 8 New Trier (5-2) fell to St. Viator 11-6 on Monday. Lion senior Casimo Cannela homered, tripled and plated three runs for St. Viator (9-4).

Homewood Flossmoor (8-2) stunned No. 12 Lincoln-Way North 10-1 behind Heartland C.C.-bound LHP Danny Lietz. Lietz fired a two-hitter at the Phoenix with 14 strikeouts. Lietz’s senior battery-mate senior C Steve Roman went deep twice for the Vikings and drove home four runs. Lietz also went deep for H-F.

Lincoln-Way North (9-3) junior C Ryan Pellack went deep for the Phoenix.

Lockport (8-4) knocked off No. 14 Andrew 11-6 on Monday. Fresh off the Porters win at No. 2 St. Laurence, 6-foot-3, 225 pound junior C Derek Bangert led the assault on the T-Bolts. Bangert had a 3-for-3 day with a two-run bomb and drove home three Porter runs.

Andrew’s (9-4) senior Justin Rzeszutko went deep for the sixth time in 2012.

No. 15 Sandburg (8-2-1) crushed district rival Stagg 21-8. Eagle Air Force-recruit Zach Reks continued his torrid hitting with a perfect 3-for-3 day with a homer and five RBI. Eagle senior Matt Farrington also went deep and plated four Eagle runs. 

No.16 Joliet Catholic Academy (8-3) slipped past Minooka 8-7 on Monday afternoon. Earlier in the day, JCA crushed Illinois Valley Central 13-1 in five innings.

Vernon Hills (10-3) shutout Lake Forest Academy 7-0. Cougar junior LHP Tyler Feece (4-1) struck out 13 for VH, allowing two hits in his six-inning performance. Cougar Eric Lang homered for VH.
