Chicago Preseason I.D.: Statistical Analysis

The inaugural Chicago Preseason I.D. was held on Feb. 23 at the Pullman Community Center in Chicago, IL. The event saw 80+ players from the greater Chicagoland area ranging from all HS classes, 19' to 22'.

Yesterday, we shared with you some instant analysis from the showcase in our Quick Hits post. Today, we’re more focused on sharing with you our statistical findings. We measured six separate categories and we’ll detail the leaders in each category below.

Robert (Trey) Walker III (Kenwood, 2020) set the high standard in the 60-yard dash crossing the lasers in a swift 6.67 seconds. Donovan McIntyre (Marian Catholic, 2021) and Donavan Noble (Brooks, 2020) were the other two players to finish under 7-seconds flat at 6.96, both tying for second. Walker, a multi-positional player, also finished in both leaderboards for top infield (83 mph) and outfield (84 mph) velocity.

Not only did Nick Gianikos (Notre Dame, 2020) and Thomas Schafer (Loyola, 2020) showcase two of the better bullpens on the day, they also finished first and second on the Max Fastball leaderboard at 88 mph and 87 mph. Jack Lausch (Brother Rice) maxed out at 85 mph best for third, an impressive achievement for a 2022 grad. Lausch, an athletic up-and-coming prospect, also finished in the top 60-yard dash and outfield velo leaderboards, capping off an impressive all around day.

St. Laurence product Marc Babicz (2020) led the exit velocity leaderboard at 92 mph from a tee. Patrick Miller (Plainfield North, 2020) and Kevin Coe Jr (Whitney Young, 2020) tied for second behind Babicz each topping 90 mph, the only other players to crack the 90+ mark. Coe (86 mph INF) and Miller (85 mph OF) each headlined their positional velocity leaderboard showcasing their athleticism on both sides of the ball.

Anthony Fitzpatrick (St. Patrick, 2020) showed savvy defensive abilities while tying Miller for first in OF velocity at 85 mph.

Jaime Sanchez (Niles North, 2019) Emmanuel Scott  (St. Ignatius, 2021) were the only two backstops to eclipse the sub-2 pop time at 1.90 and 1.94, respectively. Sanchez also headlined the top catcher velocity at 78 mph from the crouch. It's no coincidence that Scott finds his name in the two top catcher defensive leaderboards along with the 60-yard dash, showcasing his athletic footwork, advanced for his '21 classification.

Keep an eye out for an announcement regarding when videos from the showcase are posted on player profiles, in addition to full reports on each and every one of the prospects who made it to our Chicago showcase.
