Chicagoland Open: Catcher Analysis

The Chicagoland Open took place on Sunday, August 20 at Triton College in River Grove, IL. Prospects from all classes participated in a pro-style workout in front on the PBR Scouting Staff. Today, we contineu the analysis from the event with a look at the catcher's in attendance.

2018 Bobby Grimes (Nazareth) showed off a skill set that should catch the attention of programs at the next level. The unsigned senior ran an event best 6.78 60, was clocked at 80 mph from the crouch and showed well on the infield as well.

Enrique Aramburo, C, Dundee Crown, 2020
5-foot-9, 158-pound, right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively, balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, uphill barrel path, 73 mph exit velocity. Ran a 7.86 60. Defensively, short arm action, high ¾ slot, clean exchanges, 67 mph from the crouch. Recorded pop times between 2.30-2.50.

Bobby Grimes, C/INF, Nazareth, 2018
6-foot-1, 165-pound, lanky, athletically-built catcher and infielder. Ran a 6.78 laser-timed 60.  Defensively, behind the plate, short arm action, over-the-top slot, accurate throws with easy carry, 80 mph from the crouch. Fields position athletically, fluid footwork, clean exchanges, recorded pop times between 2.07-2.19. In the field, short arm action, high ¾ slot, fluid footwork, clean exchanges, maintains body control, 81 mph across the infield. Offensively, right-handed hitter, tall, open setup, hands load back, short stride, maintains balance through zone. Level barrel path, line drive approach and flashed bat speed, 86 mph exit velocity.

Cole Hernandez, C/OF, Normal West, 2020
6-foot-3, 180-pound, lanky, wide frame, catcher and outfielder. Defensively, behind the plate, short arm action, over-the-top slot, accurate on some, 75 mph from the crouch. Clean exchanges, fluid footwork, recorded pop times between 2.18-2.36. In the outfield, long arm action, high ¾ slot, some carry, 77 mph from the outfield. Offensively, balanced setup, bar load, short stride, uphill barrel path, 83 mph exit velocity. Ran a 7.35 60.

Joseph Marcucci, C, Rolling Meadows, 2019
6-foot, 190-pound, left-handed hitting catcher. Defensively, short arm action, high ¾ arm slot, clean exchanges, 70 mph from the crouch. Recorded pop times between 2.19-2.26. Offensively, balanced setup, bar load, short stride. Pull approach, long barrel path, 90 mph exit velocity. Ran a 7.76 60.

Tyler Struck, C, Providence Catholic, 2019
5-foot-11, 180-pound, right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively, balanced setup, back load, short stride, maintains balance through swing. Gap-to-gap approach, some loose, long, uphill barrel path, present bat speed, 86 mph exit velocity. Ran a 7.51 60. Defensively, short arm action, high ¾ slot, 72 mph from the crouch. Recorded pop times between 2.19-2.26.

Justin Wilk, C, Stevenson, 2018
5-foot-11, 170-pound, athletically-built, right-handed hitting catcher. Defensively, traditional catcher’s arm action, short action, over-the-top slot, accurate with carry, 78 mph from the crouch. Clean on exchanges, recorded pop times between 2.11-2.19. Offensively, balanced setup, drop and bar load, leg-kick timing trigger, pull approach, 83 mph exit velocity. Ran a 7.10 60.

Joshua Williams, C, Plainfield Central, 2020
5-foot-9, 150-pound, right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, maintains balance through swing. Long, uphill barrel path, fluid rhythm, 81 mph exit velocity. Ran a 7.92 60. Defensively, long arm action, ¾ arm slot, 68 mph from the crouch, recorded pop times between 2.42-2.51.
