Back on May 19, 170 schools had dreams of being a member of the Class 2A Final Four at Dozer Park in Peoria on Friday, June 6. After two weeks of fierce competition throughout the state, only four remain. Pleasant Plains returns, after taking home the 2013 Class 2A second-place trophy. The Cardinal, under venerable  head Dave Greer, are hoping for one more win in Peoria than they accomplished in 2013.

Freeburg, from the mighty East-Metro section of St.Louis, are  back in the finals after finishing second in Class single A in  2002 under legendary Midget coach Fred Blumberg. The Midgets also took home the Class A state championship in 1989.

Byron, on the Rock River, set a school record this season with 35 wins under the tutelage of head coach Ray Bielskis.

Westmont, the two-time Interstate 8 North Conference champions, arrive in Peoria with dreams of bringing home another Class 2A State Championship for the I-8 North. 2013 Class 2A State Champion Lisle, which defeated Pleasant Plains for the 2013 title, also resides in the rugged I-8 North. In fact the two schools are just four miles apart, connected by Ogden Avenue (Old Plank Road). The schools annually in all-sports participate in the Old Plank Road Rivalry between the two DuPage County schools.
