Class of 2019 Showcase: Quick Hits

By PBR Scouting Staff

The Class of 2019 Showcase took place on Sunday October 15th at the Max in McCook, Illinois. The event featured 90 prospects from the Class of 2019. Today we start the event analysis with a Quick Hits on some of the top performers.

  • RHP Samuel Grushkin (Seneca) has a strong 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame. Working exclusively out of the stretch he sat 81-83 mph with his fastball, reaching back for 85 mph with his last two pitches. Changeup was his best secondary offering at 69-73 with downer action. Worked fast and filled up the zone.
  • Teague Conrad (Conant) stole the show on the mound. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-hander is a slighter build comp to Austin Marozas (Plainfield South, 2017). Conrad works slightly across his body with a lower slot and displayed lively stuff highlighted by an 88 mph fastball and a 74-76 mph slider.
  • RHP Jack Cagigal (Metea Valley) is a lanky 6-foot-3, 155-pounds. His fastball worked 81-84 mph to go along with a changeup with heavy running action at 74-77 mph. Curveball has short breaking action with 12-6 shape at 70-72 mph.
  • OF Darrius Little (Simeon) is a fluid athlete who ran a 6.76, was 83 mph from the outfield and has a simple, loose right-handed swing.
  • OF/RHP Cameron Kissel (Plainfield North) had one of the most impressive days from a statistical standpoint. The strong framed OF/RHP’s best tool is his arm strength where he threw 93 mph from the outfield and worked 88-89 mph with his fastball. He also posted an eye popping 100 mph exit velocity.
  • 5-foot-11, 160-pound, Ian Steinorth (York) is a wiry right-handed hitting middle infielder who had a solid all-around day. Short, quick swing at the plate. Soft hands and a strong arm that carries across the infield and ran a 6.93 laser-timed 60.
  • LHP Cameron Mulvihill (Evanston) is the younger brother of 2016 Evanston RHP Dylan Mulvihill, who was one of the top arms in the state and went on to Penn. Cameron looks to be following in the footsteps, only from the left side. He’s a wiry projectable frame and an easy 80-82 mph fastball with good feel for his secondary stuff.
  • OF/INF Beiker Fuentes (Crystal Lake South), the younger brother of Brian Fuentes (Crystal Lake South, 2017), recently moved to the United States from Venezuela and is a high-follow prospect in the 2019 class. The switch-hitting Fuentes is a 6.79 runner and showed premium arm strength from the outfield; 93 mph. He has athletic actions all over the diamond and has quick-twitch in his swing.
  • 6-foot-1, 180-pound, OF Bennett Eltoft (St. Francis) had one of the more projectable left-handed bats in attendance. Loose swing, creates easy bat speed and made a lot of hard contact to both gaps.
  • LHP Matthew Sorrells (Oswego) is a high upside arm. His fastball showed hard late finish through the zone at 80-82 mph and projects for a lot more in the tank.
  • 3B Ethan Burgh (Prospect) put himself on the map with his performance on Sunday. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound, right-handed hitter, has present bat speed, made consistent hard contact and stays through the baseball. On the infield he has soft, receptive hands and a strong, accurate arm across the diamond, 86 mph.
  • 6-foot-1, 190-pound, 3B Nick Kosmetatos (St. Francis) continued to show he is a high-follow prospect in the 2019 class. Right-handed hitter, generates easy bat speed, 94 mph exit velocity and the ball tends to jump off his bat. On the infield, confident, soft hands, athletic actions and a big arm, clocked at 90 mph.
  • 6-foot-2, 207-pound, left/left OF Logan Bibb (Mascoutah) was yet another prospect to burst on the scene at the event. The physically advanced left-handed hitter, made a lot of loud contact and flashed pull-power potential.
  • A pair of RHP’s to follow are Matthew Ambrose (Notre Dame) and Jacob Rosenkranz (Stevenson). Both worked up 84 mph and project well with prototypical pitcher’s frames.
  • Jimmy DeAngelo (Hall Township) carries one of the more impressive builds at the event. At 6-foot-3, 205-pounds he’s a physical middle of the order type bat with a strong arm that played on the mound. Up to 86 mph, he projects as a possible legitimate two-way threat at the next level.
  • 6-foot-5 RHP Aaron Mishoulam (Oak Park-River Forest) worked 82-83 mph with his fastball showing the ability to both run it and cut it. Maintains hand speed on offspeed pitches, curveball has short, sharp breaking action at 68-70 mph.
  • LHP Ryne Singsank (Elk Grove) literally stood out at 6-foot-7, 215-pounds. On the mound he looks even bigger and throw a hard running fastball at 82-84 mph from a ¾ slot, flashing a sharp sweeping slider and hard power changeup. Singsank also showed some raw juice from the left side of the plate, and posted the top exit velocity of the day at 101 mph.
