No. 8 Lemont 10, No. 23 Peoria Notre Dame 4
In a season-opening battle between Top 25 teams, Lemont (1-0) smashed Peoria Notre Dame at Lenz Field in the Jacksonville Jamboree. St. Louis University-bound Jake Terrazas had three hits, including a triple and drove home two Indian runs. Nick Wisz doubled and drove home three runs and older brother Houston-bound Mike Wisz chipped in with a single, two-runs scored and an RBI. Pikeville-bound Eric Tucker added two hits and an RBI for winning pitcher JJC-bound Charlie Wright (1-0).

Peoria Notre Dame (0-1) was led by their Bradley-recruit junior Andy Shadid, who tripled,homered and drove home three Fighting Irish runs.

No. 15 Metamora 12, Delavan 2
The Redbirds opened up their 2014 season with a bang on Friday in Metamora. The Redbirds scored 12 runs and pounded out 15 hits in their five-inning demolition of Delavan. Junior RHP Braden Mann (1-0) was the beneficiary of the offensive onslaught. Mann allowed one earned run and two hits in his four innings of work on the mound with six strikeouts..Jake Guede was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Caleb Brachbill had a pair of doubles in his 3-for-3 day with two ribbies. 2013 PBR All-Stater Arizona-recruit Trent Johnson had three hits, including a double and an RBI.

Mattoon 10, Sullivan 2
Green Wave junior Tanner Scott led a 10 run-14 hit attack as Mattoon (1-0) rolled past Sullivan in their season-opener on Friday. Scott had three singles and drove in two runs..Senior Carter Price singled, doubled and scored four times while junior C had a single and a pair of RBI.Senior RHP Corey Godden (1-0) allowed one earned run and three hits in his stellar six-inning performance. Godden had nine punch-outs.

Jacksonville 11, TF South 0
The Crimsons improved to 2-0 with an 11-0 six-inning thrashing of TF South on Friday night at Lenz Field. Senior Dustin Woodcock (1-0) and Matt Jackson combined on a three-hit shutout of the visitings Rebels. Woodcock allowed two hits in four innings with eight strikeouts. Jackson fired two scoreless innings allowing one hit with two Ks. Crimsons senior Tyler Ring had two singles, doubled, tripled scored four runs and drove home three to lead the Jacksonville attack.

Senior Floyd Lomelino had a pair of singles and a pair of RBI. Jackson helped himself at the plate with two hits and an RBI.

Vernon Hills 7, Waukegan 2
Cougar senior LHP Pat Crowley (1-0) did not give up a hit as Vernon Hills (1-0) defeated Waukegan in a game called due to darkness after five innings. Crowley allowed a pair of unearned runs as the Cougars made three miscues behind him. Crowley struck out six in his no-no. John Goehrke singled, doubled and drove home two Cougar runs while Connor McNamara tripled home a pair for VH.

St. Viator 7, Cardinal Gibbons (NC) 6
The Lions went down to “Tobacco Road” for their spring trip and picked up a season-opening win in Raleigh NC on Friday. Trailing 5-2 after five innings the Lions scored two in the fifth and three big runs in the seventh to roll past their Carolina hosts and win a thriller. Matt Darling was perfect going 5-for-5 with a double, scoring three runs and driving one in. Bobby Calmeyn singled doubled and drove home four to lead the Lion attack.

Carbondale 6, Jackson (MO) 1
Opening day jitters must have contributed to the 10 defensive miscues the guests from Missouri committed as the Terriers improved to 4-0. Junior RHP Noah Thornburgh (2-0) struck out 13 in his masterful three-hitter and senior Justin Hoffman had an RBI double, one of only three Terrier hits.

Marist 7, Boulder Creek (AZ) 6
In the desert the Redhawks broke up a 4-4 game with three runs in the top of the sixth and hung on to defeat their Arizona hosts on Friday. 5’7” junior Mike Trbovic had the big hit for Marist (3-3) with a clutch RBI double to plate what would be the eventual game-winner. Fellow junior Ryan Kairs had two hits, scored two runs and plated another. Junior Pat Meehan (1-0) fired four innings of solid relief to pick up the win on the mound allowing two unearned runs and striking out three.

Marist 8, Sierra Linda (AZ) 6
Marist (4-3) concluded their week-long Arizona Trip with a thrilling 8-6 victory on Friday night. Seniors Barrett Callaghan and Tyler  Haizel were the offensive heroes for the Redhawks. Callaghan singled and drove home two runs while Kairis had an RBI single. Senior Dylan Woodworth chipped in with a pair of singles. Senior Matt McKenzie (1-0) picked up the win. The Redhawks return home on Monday to play Simeon.

Westmont 4, Immaculate Conception 1
The top junior in the state, Westmont’s Charlie Donovan (Michigan-recruit), put on a show Friday in the season-opener for the defending Interstate 8 North Division champions in Elmhurst. Donovan had two hits, two stolen bases and then slammed the door on the Knights in the seventh to nail down the save on the mound.

Oak Forest 12, Romeoville 0
Oak Forest (1-0) smashed Romeoville on Friday behind Bengal Kevin Johnson’s four-hit afternoon. Johnson scored four times and drove home one. Dan Hlad chipped in with three hits and a pair of RBI. Romeoville (0-1) had two singles from junior Matt Bottcher and sophomore David Rodriguez. The game was played at the Ray Kroc Community Center in Chicago.
