By: Peter Hamot

Each week, IHSA coaches around the state submit to us their nominations for the PBR Illinois Player of the Week honor. On Wednesday, we awarded the Week 8 POTW honor to SS/RHP Anthony Martinez (Lockport, 2023), who went 6-for-7 with two home runs, a double, 10 RBIs an two hit-by-pitches in just two games - also hopping on the mound and firing two shutout innings against Sandburg where he only allowed one hit and struck out four to only two walks. The uncommitted junior clubbed a home run in both games the Porters played last week, with his most impressive game coming against No. 16 Minooka; where he went a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, double, six RBIs, two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.
