This event has a dual function. For most participants, this will be their first showcase event - an initial step toward achieving a player’s baseball goals. Part of this event is educational: there will be a lecture about what scouts look for, how to comport themselves, what to expect in the recruiting process, and the overall landscape of playing at the next level. The second function of the event is to identify young talent, and at the same time getting valuable coaching in the showcase process.

The Future Prospects Showcases and Educational Camps will also be used as an identifier for this summer’s Junior Future Games 13U and 14U teams. The 2018 event will be different than in year’s past. Illinois will put together two highly-competitive teams at each age group.

As the preeminent scouting service across our 35+ state coverage area, the Prep Baseball Report is looking to identify promising young prospects at an earlier age so we can more accurately track their progress through their career.

This event has become a staple of our Preseason Showcases and some of the former participants have turned out to be some of the best players in their respective classes. 2015 graduate and Purdue recruit Nick Dalesandro (Joliet Catholic HS) and 2016 RHP Drake Fellows (Joliet Catholic HS), a Vanderbilt commit, both participated in this event while in middle school. Two year’s ago RHP/INF Ben Wiegman (Carmel Catholic, 2020) was one of the top performers at the event. 6-foot-2, 205-pound Wiegman, now a Louisville commit, recently ran his fastball up to 91 mph at the Underclass Invitational.

One of last year’s standouts was INF Noah Smith (Marist, 2021) who has since committed to Louisville and is currently ranked No. 33 Overall in the 2021 class.
