GPA Games: Quick Hits

By PBR Scouting Staff

The GPA Games took place on Sunday, August 13th at Lee Pfund Field in Carol Stream, Illinois. The event featured players in high academic standing from five surrounding states. Today we start the event analysis with Quick Hits on some of the top performers.

  • 6-foot-4, 175-pound 2018 RHP AJ Golembiewski (Marian Central Catholic, IL) was the top arm at the event working 85-86 touching 87 mph with his fastball. Golembiewski works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action, and induces a lot of weak ground ball contact. He works in on RHH’s with his fastball and features a slider with tight rotation.

  • RHP Austin Selz (Eau Claire Memorial, 2018, WI) worked downhill with his fastball at 83-85 topping out at 86 mph striking out two in his inning of work.

  • Mikey Strong (St. Thomas Aquinas, 2018, KS) showed a big arm all day. Defensively Strong’s arm played at 88 mph in the outfield and 78 mph out of the crouch. On the mound he reached 85 mph with his fastball, working from a clean high ¾ slot.

  • RHP William Jackson (Loyola, 2018, IL) worked a clean inning striking out two, showing feel for three pitches. His fastball sat 82-84 mph down in the zone for strikes.  RHP Evan Warrington (Sacred Heart-Griffin, 2018, IL) worked 82-85 topping out at 86 mph with his fastball, and snapped off a curveball with occasional sharp breaking action at 69-71 mph.

  • LHP Mark McCabe (Naperville North, 2018, IL) showed deception striking out three in his inning of work. He showed off raw arm strength sitting 80-82 topping out at 84 mph.

  • Left-handed hitting middle infielder Kyle Abatto (Kettle Moraine, 2018, WI) took one of the best BP’s of the day barreling baseball on a line with consistency and to all fields. Abatto translated it to game play with a pair of knocks in three at-bats.

  • Sean Blanchard (Plainfield East, 2019, IL) had two hits in game play including a hard hit double to left.

  • Nolan Tucker (Hanover Central, 2019, IL), Nathan Ebersole (Whitefish Bay, 2018, WI), Daniel Marrero (University School of Milwaukee, 2018, WI) and Charlie Bischoff (Plainfield Central, 2019, IL) all showed above average hands and actions in the middle of the infield.

  • RHP Ethan Elazegui (Carmel Catholic, 2018, IL) struck out the side in his inning of work with a deceptive delivery and good feel for his curveball.
