On Jan. 29, the PBR Illinois team hosted the first-ever Preseason ProCase for potential draft prospects at the Pullman Community Center in Chicago. The event featured high-level players hailing from Illinois and Wisconsin and gave them an opportunity to show off their skills to our staff for the first time in 2022.

Our staff collaborated to highlight the biggest takeaways and highlights from Saturday’s showcase, and we’re publishing them within our Quick Hits piece. Over the next couple of days we’ll be diving deeper into all of the data we collected rolling out even more coverage from the event.

Today, we’ll take a look at the top Vizual Edge scores from the event.

Edge Score

Rank Name State School Class Pos Edge Score
1 Brady Small IL Lemont 2022 OF 81.39
2 Jackson Bessette IL South Elgin 2022 C 77.46
3 Jack Scheri IL LaSalle Peru 2022 SS 72.92
4 Christian Holmes IL Brother Rice 2022 SS 72.61
5 Shai Robinson IL Homewood-Flossmoor 2022 SS 72.07

The Edge Score is a comprehensive score out of 100 that takes the core-six visual skills into account, providing athletes, parents, coaches and scouts with a benchmark number for assessing an athlete’s overall visual ability. In general the higher the Edge Score, the higher chance of athletic success. Think of the Edge Score as the 'Sixth Metric' in the standard Five-Tools that make up a ball player.

The average Edge Score for the 2020 MLB Draft Class was 79.3 (of hitters who completed a Vizual Edge test). MLB players we've worked typically show stronger scores, with elite hitters scoring consistently above 87.0 on their Edge Score.
