Illiana Preseason I.D.: Outfield Analysis

By Drew Locascio and Jaron Robinson
Illinois Staff

On Jan. 20, staff representing both PBR Illinois and PBR Indiana were on hand at the Ho-Chunk Sports and Expo Center in Chicago Heights, Ill., to evaluate close to the 80 prospects who made it out to our Illiana Preseason I.D. showcase.

We began our event coverage shortly after the event with our Quick Hits post and a Statistical Analysis. Yesterday we began the positional breakdown by taking a look at the catchers. Today we continue the roll-out with an in-depth look at the outfielders in attendance.

Glenbrook South product Cole Luckey (2021) came away as the top ranked outfielder in his first-ever PBR event. Luckey has an athletic, wide-shouldered frame with more room for additional strength, ran a sub-7.0 60, took a consistent round of BP where he showed off a loose, fast bat and was also 89 mph from the outfield.

Sophomore Jermaine Young Jr. (St. Patrick) put together a resounding round of BP. He’s strong and has the propensity to develop into a power bat. The ball jumps off his bat on a short uphill plane created by quick, strong hands.

A few noteworthy outfielders who just missed the top five were Richard Robinson (Homewood-Flossmoor, 2021), Myles Supurgeci (Mount Carmel, 2022) and Erik Mitchell (St. Charles East, 2021), among others.

Continue below for full reports on each and every outfielder from the event. And remember to check back over the coming days as we breakdown every positional group.
