On Jan. 20, staff representing both PBR Illinois and PBR Indiana were on hand at the Ho-Chunk Sports and Expo Center in Chicago Heights, Ill., to evaluate close to the 80 prospects who made it out to our Illiana Preseason I.D. showcase.

We began our event coverage shortly after the event with our Quick Hits post and a Statistical Analysis. This week, we’ve been rolling out position-by-position analysis from this event that started with the day’s catchers, outfielders, infielders and has led us to the pitchers, which we’ll dissect today. 

Shane Baumgarten (Wheaton Academy, 2021) most notbaly known for his skills on the infield, hopped on the mound for the first time at a PBR event and came away as the top ranked arm in attendance. Baumgarten has a clean, quick arm, topped at 87 mph and flashed a sharp breaking ball with swing-and-miss potential.

Behind Baumgarten is a high-upside 2021 right-handed arm, Peyton Olejnik (Hanover Central, IN). Olejnik has a loose, quick arm out front with much more velocity to come, a low-80’s fastball and feel for a three-pitch repertoire.
