No. 6 Libertyville 9, Corona Del Sol (AZ) 8
The defending Class 4A State Runner-Up Wildcats rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to defeat their Arizona hosts in the desert on Monday. Juniors Jimmy Govern and Nick Rosetti brought the Wildcats back in the seventh. Rosetti ripped a single that brought Libertyville back within one at 8-7. Govern, who enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign last year, did it again when he ripped a two-run triple putting Libertyville in the lead 9-8. Grinnell College-bound RHP Andrew Mack picked up the win with 1.1 innings of shutout relief. In the ninth, Corona Del Sol had the tying run at second with one out. Mack bore down and retired the last two CDS hitters on a ground out and a fly out.
No. 14 Carmel 8, Highland 6
The Corsairs scored three times in the top of the fifth to erase a 4-2 Highland lead. Highland (0-1) plated a run to tie the game at 5-5 with a run in the home half of the fifth. Carmel (4-1) put three more on the board in the top of the sixth and went on to a thrilling victory on Monday. Bradley-bound Ian Kristan singled, doubled, scored a run and plated three while Illinois-bound Quintin Sefcik singled, doubled scored twice and drove in a run. Sophomore Cooper Johnson had two hits and two RBI.
Vernon Hills 13, No. 37 Harrisburg 5
The Cougars improved to 3-0 with an impressive rout of No. 37 Harrisburg (0-2) in Harrisburg on Monday. Senior Pat Crowley singled, doubled and drove home three runs while Tommy Earhart had a double and also plated three VH runs. John Goerke added two hits and two runs scored while John Boyer chipped in with two hits and one run scored.
