Illinois Recruiting Notebook

By Sean Duncan

Executive Director

One of the top 2015 prospects in Illinois named his school recently when RHP Mitchell Janssen (Princeville HS) verbally committed to Bradley University.

Janssen was one of the biggest risers over the summer, as the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder experienced a significant velocity spike and growth spurt.  Janssen is currently ranked No. 20 in Illinois’ loaded 2015 class and No. 94 overall.

At the PBR Class of 2015 Showcase last July, Janssen sat 86-87 mph with his fastball; he flashed 88-89 at another event we were at later in the month. Nearly a year prior, at a PBR event in June of 2012, Janssen’s fastball sat 78-81 mph.

With Janssen’s pledge, 16 of Illinois’ top 20 prospects are now verbally committed.

In other recruiting news:

+ Mike Wick, a left-handed hitting senior OF from Bartlett HS, has committed to Webster University. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Wick showed extremely well at the PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase in October, when he ran a 6.86 60 and registered an 88-mph exit velocity. Wick is currently ranked No. 229 in Illinois’ 2014 class.

+ Danny Pecoraro, a left-handed hitting MIF from Prairie Ridge HS, has committed to Loras College in Iowa. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound Pecoraro is an excellent defender who was an impact performer for the Wolves as a junior. Pecoraro is currently ranked No. 173 in Illinois’ 2014 class.

+ Rhett Rapshus, a 6-foot-1 RHP from Lake Park HS, has committed to Black Hawk College.
