Inside The Illinois Rankings: 2021 Risers

By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

Our coverage of the 2021 Illinois Rankings continues today with a look at the players rose in the recent update. Throughout the summer and early fall we had an opportunity to see a countless number of players and plenty have elevated their stocks over that time. One of the biggest events of the summer, the PBR Future Games took place in early August and a number of 2021s from Team Illinois proved they deserved to climb up the rankings.

One of the biggest revelations from the Future Games was LHP Reed Gannon (Minooka), a recent Kentucky commit, who we touched on yesterday, and is now No. 4 on the board. When it comes to position players, no one on Team Illinois boosted their stock more than catcher Ty Batusich (Joliet West). Batusich, still uncommitted, hit two home-runs during game play and had one of the top catcher workouts during the showcase day. Batusich, a 6-foot, 180-pound muscular left-handed hitter, climbed 11 spots to No. 12 in the class.

OF/LHP Isaiah Thompson (Sacred Heart-Griffin; No. 15), MIF Gallien Coupet (Homewood-Flossmoor; No. 20), OF Cameron Hill (Brother Rice; No. 32), OF Nicky Giamarusti (Niles Notre Dame; No. 35) and INF Sam Antonacci (Sacred Heart-Griffin; No. 43) are five other uncommitted position players, who showed well at the Future Games and rose in the rankings as a result. Thompson seemingly barreled up everything in sight, played a high-level outfield and also got on the mound and showed true two-way potential.
