Inside The Illinois Rankings: 2021 Risers and Newcomers

By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

On Tuesday, we released our updated and expanded Illinois Class of 2021 Rankings and took a detailed look at the top-10 prospects. Today, we’re going to dive deeper into the Top 100, looking at some of the biggest risers and newcomers on the list.

Outside of the top-10, OF Eddie King Jr. (Marian Catholic) rose a couple of spots and now sits at No. 14 in the class. The physically-advanced, 6-foot-2, 180-pound, corner outfielder, is a middle-of-the-order right-handed that has advanced bat strength and flashes pull power.

LHP Grant Holderfield (Oak Park-River Forest) emerged as one of the top left-handers in the class at the Underclass Invitational this winter. Holderfield, who committed to Indiana shortly following the event, works across his body, has a lively arm, low-80’s fastball and an advanced three-pitch mix for his age. Holderfield jumped 13 spots and now sits in the top-20 of the class.
