Joliet Catholic Stays Hot, Knocks Off Nazareth

LAGRANGE PARK, IL - No. 3 Joliet Catholic went on the road on Tuesday afternoon to face conference foe Nazareth. After 16 hits and 14 runs the Hilltoppers of Joliet Catholic came away with a 14-4 victory.

The Hilltoppers broke the game open in the top of the second inning putting up seven runs on seven hits. Senior Simon Grashoff and junior Jared Cushing (Texas Tech commit) delivered RBI singles in the frame while junior Greg Ziegler (Missouri State commit) added an RBI double to right-center field.

Joliet Catholic (20-3) put the game away for good scoring four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. In the sixth inning Tony Fleischauer singled and scored in the frame and Justin Conant (Ball State commit) added a two out run-scoring single. Cushing and Fleischauer also added RBI singles in the seventh inning as well.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Zach Hise got his second start of the season on varsity. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound, right-hander has an athletic, easy arm and worked mainly off of a fastball/slider combination. Hise sat 83-84 mph, touching 86 with his fastball and showed feel for his slider at 74-76 mph. The final line for Hise was four innings, five hits, three earned runs, one strikeout and three walks.

Aidan Tyrell (Notre Dame), Matt Bebar (North Central), Ziegler, Cushing, Fleischauer and Conant all had multiple hits to lead the Joliet Catholic offense.

Bobby Grimes (Triton JC) and Joey Trelenberg led the attack for the Nazareth (11-10-1) offense. Grimes went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. Trelenberg finished 2-for-4 on the day. Zach Carmignani also chipped in with a triple and run scored in the fifth inning.
