On Sept. 20, the PBR Illinois team hosted its first-ever Kane County Open event at Northwestern Medicine Field, home of the Kane County Cougars. Over 30 high school-aged players were in attendance, and most of whom were making their PBR showcase debuts. We previously opened our event coverage in the days that followed the event, inside of our Statistical Analysis. We’re continuing our post-event coverage today, rolling out our position player scouting reports.

Coming in at the top of the rankings below is a southpaw sophomore, Carter White (Dee-Mack, 2023), who used this latest opportunity to emerge as a follow arm in the state’s 2023 class. With a clean, loose arm action, White gets to his projectable upper-70s velocity easily, and with substantial arm-side action through the zone. In a lanky frame, White wields some noteworthy projection, with some of the largest upside in this group.

Uncommitted senior RHP Holter Gette (Batavia, 2021) made his PBR event debut here and impressed our staff in the process. His sturdy 6-foot-2 stature helps him reach mid-80s velo with low effort, and he flashed the feel for a couple offspeed offerings, a change and curve, that should allow him to offer some starter traits at the next level.

One other sophomore made a loud PBR debut, too: RHP Larry Han (Stevenson, 2023). This 6-foot-2, 180-pound righty has a really clean, loose, and easy arm action that projects to be the benefactor of a jump in velocity in the not-too-distant future. We’ll keep an eye on him headed into the new year.

Delivery: Squared start from the middle of the rubber; quick pace, front step into deep rock and hip turn balance point. Crouched and coiled, brief hold, big reach at draw, high front side, lands on line, square to target.
Arm Action: RH. Compact arm circle to high 3/4 slot; loose, quick arm that generates noticeable elbow layback.
FB: T86, 84-85 mph. Featured late arm-side run while flashing large carry. Averaged Induced Vertical Break of 16.0 inches. Located consistently up and out of the zone.
CB: 70-72 mph. Flashed sharp action; inconsistent feel to locate. Presents some upside as he adds a feel to spot it.

3. Larry Han, Stevenson (IL), 2023
Positional Profile: RHP/OF
Body: 6-2, 180-pounds. High-waisted, lanky levers.
Defense: Average hands, clean transfer, plays through the baseball.
Arm: RH. OF - 83 mph. Long, loose arm action, over-the-top slot, throws play accurate with carry.
Hit: RHH. Tall/open setup, hands set low. Hands raise in load back, toe-tap stride to even. Short level swing, flattens barrel, gets on top of the ball at impact. Generates some strength on impact for age.

Arm Action: RH. Long draw and circle to a high 3/4 slot.
FB: T83, 81-82 mph. Generates noteworthy arm-side action, heavy feel. Averaged 14.7 inches of horizontal break. Showed some feel to locate.
CB: 67-70 mph. Gradual 11/5 action, decelerates arm speed some.
