Lake Forest Rolls Libertyville, Stays Unbeaten

By Sean Duncan
Executive Director

LIBERTYVILLE, IL – Quietly, Lake Forest has flown under the radar, despite remaining unbeaten after 10 games this season. The Scouts missed being included in the recently updated Power 25 Team Rankings because, well, they were under our radar. (Editor’s Note: We completely whiffed.)

Let the record be known that Lake Forest should be on everyone’s radar, as it proved Tuesday by soundly thumping host Libertyville 11-3 in a North Suburban Lake contest. With the win, the Scouts improve to 10-0 and 3-0 in conference. The two teams will square off again on Wednesday.

Lake Forest came off the bus swinging, tallying 14 hits against three Libertyville pitchers. Junior catcher Jake Durburg led the hit parade by going 4-for-4 with a walk, a double and four RBI. He drove in a pair of runs on a two-run single in the sixth and added a run-scoring double in the seventh to help the Scouts put the game away.

Senior LF Mateo Hargitt finished 2-or-3 with a triple, a sacrifice fly, a walk, two runs and two RBI, while senior RF Charlie Sullivan went 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Senior 1B George Karkazis was on base four times with a hit, a walk, an error and a hit by pitch, and senior CF Cole Digman added two hits and two RBI. Even many of the outs were hit hard. Junior SS Cal Coughlin, who’s one of the top prospects in the 2016 class, had three of the hardest hit balls of the day, but had nothing to show for it, getting robbed by a stellar diving catch in centerfield by junior Riley Lees, ripped a shot right at Lees again, and smoked a liner to the third baseman.

Libertyville (6-5, 1-2) was led by senior 2B Jake Vogt, who went 2-for-4 with a double. Junior DH Tim Calamari added a hit and a sacrifice fly in the third that scored SS Jimmy Govern, who had doubled.

Complete scout notes will be added to the Illinois Scout Blog later.
