Lockport Preseason I.D.: Blast Motion Board

By Andy Sroka
Illinois and Wisconsin Assistant Director

On Feb. 15, the PBR Illinois team hosted the Lockport Preseason I.D. The event featured over 160 uncommitted prospects from across Illinois, and a few neighboring states.

If you missed us in Lockport, check out our showcase page to see when we’re in the neighborhood next.

Last week, our staff collaborated to highlight the biggest takeaways and highlights from Monday's showcase, and we published them in our Quick Hits piece. Later on, we published the leaderboards featuring the traditional statistics we measured at Lockport's event, as well as the findings that our TrackMan unit helped identify. Today, we're assessing the Blast Motion data captured by the sensor worn by players during their round of batting practice. Check out the leaderboards below.

Peak Hand Speed: The observed maximum speed as measured on the handle of the bat (measured six inches from the knob of the bat). Peak Hand Speed will occur prior to the moment of impact, very close to the commit time in the swing when the wrists unhinge.

9 Cullen Seville IL Lincoln-Way Central 2023 OF 22.6 g
10 Thomas Hartman IL New Trier 2023 C 22.3 g

Body Rotation: A swing that has the appropriate relative contributions of body and bat rotations is an efficient and Powerful swing that maintains proper sequencing. An efficient baseball swing is one in which the body creates the initial movements, which is then transferred to the arms and out to the bat, thereby maximizing Bat Speed through this proximal-to-distal kinematic sequencing movement pattern.

ON-PLANE EFFICIENCY PERCENTAGE

Rank Name State School Class Pos On Plane Eff (avg)
1 Brandon Pritchard IL Lincoln-Way West 2022 SS 92 %

On-Plane Efficiency: This metric measures the percentage of your swing that the sweet spot of the bat is considered to be On Plane. The reference plane is defined at the moment of impact. The percentage of your swing On Plane is determined by the amount of speed generated within that reference plane.
