Lockport Rising Stars ID: Statistical Analysis and Takeaways

Illinois Scouting Staff

On Tuesday, April 19, the PBR Illinois team hosted the Lockport Rising Stars ID at Bo Jackson's Elite Sports in Lockport, IL. The event featured over 70 prospects from around the area and gave our scouting staff an in-depth look at the next crop of talent that will be coming through the state.

Read below to see which players stood out at this year's Lockport Rising Stars ID.

2026 PROSPECTS

+ OF/C/RHP Frank Costabile (Stevenson, 2026) showed off impressive arm strength for a 2026 graduate. The 5-foot-7, 150-pound two-way prospect ran a 7.23 60-yard dash, topped at 87 mph from the outfield and showed above-average bat speed and power from the right-side of the plate. To top off his impressive day, Costabile got on the mound and sat comfortably at 85-86 mph, touching an 86.8 high – that’s good for the third highest fastball velo across all Rising Stars events in the nation this year. Costabile was impressive across all facets, but his on-mound work was particularly eye-opening. He was reaching that mid-80s velocity with relative ease, and he was generating hard sweeping action with his curveball that was spinning at an advanced rate, and not just for a player his age. His changeup was equally impressive, with late arm-side run and fade that he was spotting effectively at the bottom of the zone. Costabile’s arm strength translated effortlessly into his catcher defense, where he recorded pop times in the 2.13-2.20 range, aided by an arm that topped 78 mph out of the chute.

+ INF Joey Ireland (Mount Carmel, 2026) is a name that we’ve become familiar with over the last calendar year, having represented Team Illinois at the PBR Junior Future Games this past summer. The 5-foot-10, 140-pound highly projectable middle infielder was amongst the top prospects in attendance at last week’s event, starting his day off with a 7.23 in the 60-yard dash and showcasing a high-ceiling skill set at the plate. Ireland worked gap-to-gap with ease in BP, displaying loose athletic hands and an uphill plane to contact while keeping his barrel in the zone. Ireland’s fluidness transferred to the infield, where he displayed soft hands and rhythmic footwork, ranging easily to both sides. He also featured a quick arm that produced backspin with carry across the diamond, topping at 72 mph on his hardest bullet. Ireland’s quickly emerging as a high-follow prospect in the Illinois’ 2026 class.

+ Another high-upside follow from last Tuesday’s event is C/OF Ryan Harris (Stevenson, 2026). Built at a lanky, high-waisted 6-foot, 170-pounds, Harris’ BP round was arguably one of the event’s loudest. He hit the hardest ball of the entire event (91.9 mph) and averaged the hardest mark off the barrel (88.5 mph) amongst all prospects in attendance, too.

+ Colton Benaitis (Lockport, 2026), a 5-foot-10, 155-pound catcher, had a solid all-around showing and looked to be one of the top right-handed bats in attendance. Benaitis has loose, easy hands, stays short and direct to contact while repeating hard line-drive contact to all fields with more power to come down the road. He also ran a 7.16 60, was 71 mph from the crouch and his pop times ranged from 2.07-2.15.

+ Another toolsy outfield prospect with a high-ceiling was 5-foot-10, 155-pound Riley Contreras (Hinsdale Central, 2026). Contreras ran one of the top 60’s of the day at 7.02, topped at 81 mph from the outfield and flashed pull-side leverage in his right-handed swing.

2027 PROSPECTS

+ One of the day’s most impressive BP rounds came from left-handed hitting OF/RHP Sebastian Wilson (2027). A physically matured 5-foot-11, 160-pound athlete, Wilson showed flashes of a potential middle-of-the-order type bat, working with fluid rhythm, controlled aggression on a short, uphill plane and repeatedly making gap-to-gap contact. It was an advanced showing at the plate for someone his age, hitting his hardest ball at 88.6 mph and his furthest traveled 316 feet, per TrackMan. Wilson’s physicality transferred to other aspects of his working, as he topped at 80 mph to home from the outfield and bumped his fastball up to 78.7 mph on the mound later on in the event. He’s a name we’re eager to see as his high school career rolls on, starting at The Rock Sports Complex this summer.

+ SS/RHP Parker Robinson (N/A) is another impressive looking 2027 graduate, filling out the uniform at an athletic, 6-foot, 140-pounds. Robinson, a right-handed hitter, stays fluid, repeatable and balanced throughout with loose, twitchy hands and a feel for the barrel. There is present bat speed and all kinds of upside at the plate. Defensively, he is a confident defender with soft hands and an easy arm that topped at 75 mph across the infield.

There were plenty of other impressive performances not mentioned above that we will touch on in the coming weeks when we release the scouting reports on each and every prospect in attendance. For now, read on below for the top statistical leaders from the event.
