Madison Preseason I.D.: Infield Analysis

By Steve Nielsen
Illinois & Wisconsin Scouting Supervisor

Today we’ll review the front-row seat we had at the infielders who attended the Madison Preseason I.D. event last month.

It was a strong group, represented by the depth of its 2021 class. There were 10 freshmen prospects who actually warranted being named top prospects of their class from this event, led by Jackson Acker (Verona).

Acker presented us with an all-around profile; he showed an aptitude at the plate and was sound defensively, both with his glove and his strong arm.

As for the sophomores in attendance, none made as loud of an impact than Max Wagner (Green Bay Preble). Few improved their stock as much as Wagner, regardless of class. He was a strong, aggressive hitter and showed fluid footwork and natural actions on the left side of the infield.

What stood out among this junior class was the number of quality juniors who remain uncommitted. Of the 10 top junior prospects listed, only Bennett Frazer (Oconto) is committed; he’s Bradley bound. There’s some skilled players in this group and they may not be uncommitted for much longer.

Tomorrow we’ll comb over the day’s pitchers. If you missed our positional breakdowns from earlier this week, click C to check out the event’s catcher breakdown and OF to take a better look at the outfielders from the day. Continue reading on for reports on each and every one of the infielders who participated in last month’s showcase.
