We have a real treat for you this morning. No.7 Simeon (6-0) will travel to Burbank to face the No. 4 Vikings of St. Laurence (3-0) at Viking Field at 11 a.m.. No. 14 Harrisburg (2-0-1) and Decatur St. Teresa (4-0-1) battled for eight long innings and had to settle for a 4-4 tie. In a battle of Bulldogs, Harrisburg Bulldog John A. Logan-bound RHP Tyler McGowan battled into the sixth and allowed four runs for Harrisburg. Bulldog sophomore Brennan Street doubled home the tying run in the bottom of the fifth. St. Teresa reclaimed the lead at 4-3 in the top of the sixth and Harrisburg evened things up at 4-4 on a costly St.Teresa miscue.

Harrisburg senior RHP Cameron Cummins slammed the door on the St. Teresa Bulldogs and then the men in blue sent everyone home, when darkness fell over Dorris Heights.

No. 46 Pleasant Plains (2-0) hammered previously-unbeaten Rochester 9-2 behind Parkland College-bound RHP Kyle Weller. Weller (1-0) allowed a run and a hit in his four-inning stint on the mound, with eight strikeouts. Cardinal junior 1B Danny Hayes had a pair of hits and plated a run for the Cardinal.

Champaign Centennial (6-0) won again on the Chargers spring trip, this time crushing Apollo Ridge (PA) 12-1 on Friday. Charger senior Lucas Stefan had a perfect 4-fo-r 4 day and plated four Charger runs. Junior Drey Goddard (2-0) allowed only one run in his quality six-inning performance.

Charger seniors Jonathan Sherrick and Cully Wilson had a pair of hits and an RBI each to lead the Chargers past the opposition from the Keystone State.

Bloomington (2-1) was one of the few schools to play today, despite the state-wide rain. The Purple Raiders defeated the Railsplitters of Lincoln 6-3 on Friday. Purple Raider junior Jayden Thompson (1-0) allowed only one run in his quality six-inning stint. Thompson fanned seven and Raider junior Ken Fritz slammed the door on the ‘Splitters in the seventh inning to nail down his first save of 2012.

Bloomington will travel to Stanford (Olympia) on Saturday, for an 11 o’clock game with the Spartans.

Metamora (4-0) was led by the Bradley-recruit RHP Spencer Gaa (2-0) on Friday. Gaa had a pair of doubles at the plate and then pitched a scoreless top of the seventh. When the ‘Birds won it in the bottom of the seventh, 4-3, the future Brave had notched his second victory of the season.

Danville (4-2) and previously-unbeaten Peoria Notre Dame (3-1) were locked up in an old-fashioned pitchers’ duel in Peoria. After four innings there was no score. Danville struck for three runs in the top of the fifth. Viking Cash Kiser was on the money when he came through with a clutch two-out RBI double. Viking starting and winning pitcher, Chase Thurston (1-1), came through with another clutch two-run single to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead.

Viking junior C Chuckie Robinson, ranked 12th in the Class of 2013 by the PBR, hammered a bases-clearing triple, to give the Vikings a 6-1 lead. The Vikings would add another run in the third and win 7-1. Thurston fired a five-hitter at the irish.

Washington (2-1) hammered Barrington 9-4 in Washington on Friday.

Geneva (1-1-1) topped Notre Dame 3-1, behind Viking RHP Andy Honiotes (1-0). Honiotes, currently ranked No. 6 in the Class of 2013, fired a complete game at the Dons with a dozen strikeouts. Notre Dame falls to 2-2.

Galesburg (2-0-1) destroyed out-manned East Aurora 17-0 in five-innings in Galesburg Friday. Illinois State-bound C Chad Johnson had a perfect day against the Tomcats, going 4-for-4 with six RBI.

Granite City (2-1) crushed Dupo 10-0 in five innings on Friday behind a one-hit masterpiece by junior Jordan Askins. Askins (1-0) fanned nine and helped himself with a 3 hits and a pair of RBI. Warrior junior Alex Godair had drove home a pair for the Warriors.

Warrior senior 2B Matt Burton and Senior SS Josh Cochran each drove home a Warrior run. Burton had a pair of hits as the Warriors opened the 2012 season with 13 hits.

Belleville West (1-0) blanked Centralia 10-0 in the Maroons season-opener behind Maroon senior RHP Ian Zimmerman (1-0). Zimmerman fired four shutout innings at the Orphans, allowing two hits and striking out four. Zimmerman also had a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate with an RBI.

Zimmerman’s battery-mate senior C Brandon Brown plated two Maroon runs and junior Adam Brauer also drove home a pair for Belleville West.
