Central State 8

Chatham Glenwood (4-1; 3-0) exploded for five first-inning runs and rolled past Rochester 6-2 on Tuesday. Kansas State-bound RHP Alex Bee (2-0) allowed a pair of runs and four hits in his six-innings of work to pick up the win. Bee struck out nine.

Titan senior Dane Blakeman had two hits and plated a Titan run. Senior Kollin Taylor chipped in with a couple of hits, including a double. Bee chipped in with a triple. Rochester falls to 5-2 and 2-1 in the CS8.

Sacred Heart-Griffin (1-2; 1-0) won its first game of 2012 with an 8-1 win over Taylorville (3-3; 1-2). Cyclone senior Logan Faber (1-1) fired a seven-hitter with seven strikeouts. Seniors SS Patrick Smith and CF Carter Pranger led the Cyclone offensive attack with two hits and two RBI.

Southwestern Conference

No. 25 Belleville East (6-0; 1-0) slipped past Granite City 2-1 behind 6-foot-5 senior Alex Siddle. Siddle fired a two-hitter at the Warriors with nine strikeouts.

The Lancers pushed across the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh which made the East-Side of Belleville a happy place Tuesday night.  Granite City falls to (3-3; 0-1)

Alton (5-0; 1-0) smashed No.15 Edwardsville 9-3 on Tuesday behind a huge fifth inning solo-shot from junior catcher Brent Gibbs, which broke up a 3-3 game in the top of the fifth. The Redbirds ran wild on the Tigers stealing an amazing 10 bases. Redbird junior Brad Henry (2-0) picked up the win for the Redbirds.

Edwardsville (4-1; 0-1), which had a two-run shot from junior 1B Drew Curtis, falls from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Tigers committed five errors.

O’ Fallon (5-3; 1-0) flattened East St. Louis 14-0 in five innings.

Belleville West (2-0; 1-0) nipped Collinsville 2-1. Maroon senior Ian Zimmermann (2-0) was lights-out for West in its Southwestern Conference opener on Tuesday. Zimmermann struck out 13 Kahoks hitters in his complete-game gem. Collinsville falls to (4-3; 0-1)

Nonconference

Andrew (3-1) hit No. 10 Oak Forest (1-1) and Louisville-bound RHP Kyle Funkhouser (1-1) with a 20-run outburst on Tuesday. The T-Bolt bats struck like lightning with an unbelievable six-homer day along with 20 hits for an easy 20-5 victory. Andrew senior Justin Rzeszutko went deep twice for the ‘Bolts and drove in four. Junior 3B Dan Durkin had a 5-for-5 day with a bomb and four RBI. Senior Pat Elget, junior Zach Klockowski and senior 1B Mark Kane all hit balls that left the premises in Oak Forest.

No. 3 Normal West (6-1) beat Pekin 4-1 in eight innings behind junior University of Illinois-recruit RHP Matthew James (3-0). James fired two scoreless innings in relief of Wes Sery, who pitched the first six innings for the Wildcats. Sery allowed one run and two hits and fanned six Dragon hitters. Junior battery C Adam McGinnis hit a sac-fly in the top of the eighth for the game-winner.

No. 5 Mt. Carmel (7-0) defeated Kenwood 3-1 at Haggerty Field on Tuesday.  Caravan sophomore LHP Marko Boricich (1-0) picked up the win on the mound and junior Beau Filkins nailed down the save for the Caravan.

No. 7 Marian Catholic (4-0) slipped past De La Salle 6-3. Spartan sophomore Patrick Smith drove home two runs to lead the Spartans past the Meteors.

No.11 New Trier (2-0) won again at the Miner Classic in Marion, this time dismantling Warren 7-1. Northwestern-bound Josh Perlmutter had a perfect 3-for-3 day with an RBI.

No. 12 Machesney Park Harlem (6-0) stayed hot with a 17-5 pasting of Sterling in five innings. Huskie senior Derrick Mason had three hits and three RBI to lead the Harlem attack. Mason picked up the win on the mound to improve to 2-0.

No. 16 Downers Grove South (3-0), swept East Peoria 11-1 and 13-9 on the Mustangs first stop on their central Illinois trip. In the first game Mustang junior RHP Brian Glowicki (2-0) picked up the win on the mound for DGS. Senior Nick Vanek had quite a day for the Mustangs. Vanek hammered a three-run bomb, a grand slam and drove in eight runs in the Mustangs 11-1 first game triumph. In game two he picked up the win in relief in the 13-9 Mustang second game win.

No. 18 Benton (6-1) slipped past Montini 6-5 on Tuesday. PBR Porsche Player of the Week Bradley-bound SS Ty Leffler made designs on another Porsche POY with a perfect 4-for-4 day with three runs scored. Ranger freshman Dakota Head fired a seven-hitter at the Broncos to improve to 2-0 on the mound for the Rangers.

No. 23 Maine South (4-0) unloaded upon Parkway West (MO) 13-3. Notre Dame-bound Kyle Richardson hammered a pair of home runs and drove in three RBI to make a winner out of Hawk senior RHP Pat Aloisio (2-0).

No. 24 Mundelein (6-1) blasted Carbondale 11-1 in five innings on Tuesday.

Bloomington (6-1) ambushed Bartonville Limestone 12-5 in Bloomington on Tuesday. Limestone (3-2) was coming off of their big win at home over No. 3 Normal West on Monday. The red-hot Purple Raiders wasted little time in finishing off their guests from Bartonville. Senior Matthew Mardis went deep for the second time in 2012 and drove home three Raider runs. Senior Mike Mardis added a pair of RBI for the Raiders. Senior 2B Curtis Wiese continued his assault on his own school-record with another two hits and two RBI.

Juniors Jayden Thompson and Brandon Edwards each chipped in with a pair of hits  and senior Jack Cerny improved to 3-0 on the season with another win on the mound for the Purple Raiders.

Manteno (8-0) routed Donovan 11-1 in six innings on Tuesday. Panther senior Mark Reardanz had three hits, including his first round-tripper, and drove home five big Panther runs. Panther junior Josh Morgan (4-0) fired a six-hitter with six strikeouts. The run Morgan allowed was unearned.

On Thursday, the PBR’s Drake Skleba will head down to Manteno, for the Class 2A battle between undefeated Manteno (8-0) and the Knights of Chicago Christian (9-1). First pitch 4:30

Chicago Christian (9-1) smashed Tinley Park 13-3 in six innings.

Naperville Central (1-1) evened up its record with a 3-0 win over Oswego (3-1) on Tuesday. Juniors Jimmy Nashert and Jeff Shank combined for a two-hitter against the Panthers. The Redhawks scored the first run of the game on a Panther miscue and then junior C Brian Schiemann drilled a two-run single to give the Redhawks a 3-0 lead they would not relinquish.

Elk Grove (4-1) blanked Deerfield 8-0 behind a two-hit shutout by Grenadier senior Jack Czeszewski (2-0).

Illinois Valley Central (4-0) used the long-ball to defeat Rock island Alleman 5-4 on Tuesday. Grey Ghost juniors Sam Reuter and Mitch Meyers went deep.  Reuter hammered a three-run bomb in the first and Meyers followed with a two-run shot in the second. R.I. Alleman falls to 3-2.

Wheaton Academy (3-2) fell to the 10th- ranked team in Missouri, Rock Bridge 4-0. Wright State-bound Warrior RHP Trevor Swaney fired five scoreless innings until the kids from the Show Me State broke through for four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Swaney had both Wheaton Academy’s hits. 

Lisle (7-3) swept Proviso East 16-0 and 8-1 on Tuesday. Lion junior RHP Ryan Van Volkenberg (2-0) fired a three-hitter at the Pirates in game one. Van Volkenberg also went deep for the Lions. Senior Ty Howell also hammered a homer for the Lions.

In game two, Lion senior Jon Clayton (1-0) fired a four-hitter at the Pirates. Lion senior Ty Howell, went deep twice in the second game to lead the Lions to the sweep.

Carmel (4-1) routed St. Charles North 13-2 in five innings at the Miner Classic in Marion, behind Texas Christian University-bound LHP Alex Young (2-0). Young, ranked fourth in the Class of 2012, allowed a run and a hit and fanned nine North Star hitters.

The Corsairs completed their sweep at the Miner Classic, stunning No. 13 Harrisburg 7-5.Harrisburg drops its second straight and falls to 4-2-1.  

Indiana-bound Sully Stadler was extremely sharp Tuesday, as the athletic 6-foot-4 left-hander helped lead Glenbrook South (2-1) to an easy 9-2 victory over Stevenson (1-1) in Glenview. Stadler threw five scoreless innings as he baffled Stevenson with his 85-86 mph fastball that topped at 88. Stadler carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning.

Offensively, the Titans were led by senior Josiah Carlson; he connected for a two-run homer to centerfield. Northwestern-bound first baseman Zach Jones added a double, and junior outfielder Max Cohen also contributed a run-scoring double. Junior Kyle Pauly added a two-run single late for the Titans.
Illinois-bound shortstop Adam Walton delivered a two-run single for Stevenson to put the Patriots on the board.

Walther Lutheran (2-3) blasted Northridge Prep 10-0 in five innings for the Broncos second straight win. Bronco lefty Joe Lominecki (1-1) evened his record with a four-hit gem. Lominecki helped himself out at the plate with a pair of hits, including a double and drove in two Bronco runs. Bronco Josh Galvin duplicated

Lominecki’s performance with two hits and two RBI and Alcorn State-bound Bronco SS Chris Stevens chipped in with a pair of hits.

Plainfield Central (4-1) rallied past Morris 8-7 as the Wildcats erupted for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the huge win.

Herscher (5-3) blew out Kankakee 12-1 in five innings on Tuesday. Tiger Austin Mandel evened up his record at 1-1, with a complete-game victory for the Tigers on the mound. Tiger Landon Hoffman had a single and a three-run bomb to lead the Tiger offensive assault.

Effingham (4-1) held off Mt. Vernon 2-1 in Mt. Vernon on Tuesday. Flaming Heart senior Alan Quandt (1-0) allowed one run in six-plus innings of work to pick up the win on the mound for Effingham. The Flaming Hearts senior closer Tyler Bushue nailed down the save in the bottom of the seventh with the winning runs on base for the Rams.

Hinsdale South (3-0) stopped Lincoln-Way Central 6-3 in Darien on Tuesday. Lincoln-Way Central falls to 6-2.

 Washington (4-1) hammered Galesburg 15-3 in six innings on Tuesday. Panther Casey Danly had a perfect 4-for-4 day with three RBI. Galesburg falls to 6-2.

Chicago Agricultural Science (2-4) blasted Hubbard 15-5 behind Cyclone junior Keven Stonewall who had a perfect 2-for-2 day while driving in five Cyclone runs. Cyclone senior Prince DeMarco went deep twice for AgScience.

Cary-Grove (4-3) surprised Lockport 3-1 at the Miner Classic Showcase at Rent One Park in Marion. Trojan LHP Ryan Kaveney fired a six-hitter at the porters with six strikeouts. Cary-Grove picked up three unearned runs in the first inning and Kaveney made them hold up.

Lockport (3-1) was led once again by Porter junior Derek Bangert, who had two hits and drove in the lone Porter run with an RBI double. Senior Josh Altmann chipped in with a pair of hits. The Porters will close out their play in Marion with a 9 a.m. game with No. 24 Mundelein (6-1) on Thursday.

Hoffman Estates (4-3) hammered Maine East 14-2 in five innings on Tuesday. Hawk Jimmy Ward fired a two-hitter at the Demons. Ward struck out nine to pick up the win on the mound for the Hawks.

Danny Alba led the offensive onslaught for the Hawks with three hits and plated three Hawk runs. Zack Hommowun, Ethan Bloom and Mark Roberts all had two hits and drove home a Hawk run. The win was the third straight for the Hawks.

Leyden (5-0) defeated Maine West 4-1 on Tuesday.

Stagg (2-6) slipped past Shepard 5-3 on Tuesday. Charger junior Vito Cali (1-1) evened up his mark on the mound, with a quality six inning start. Cali allowed just three hits and fanned four Astro hitters. Charger junior Steve Kubiak drove home a pair for Stagg and fellow-junior Mike Farnan chipped in with another RBI for Stagg.

Belleville Althoff (2-1) smashed Mascoutah 9-1 behind Crusader junior Bryce Richter. Richter (1-0) picked up the win on the mound and helped himself with a four-RBI day.

Danville (5-2) crushed Lake Forest 12-2 behind Viking junior C Chuckie Robinson. Robinson had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate for the Vikings.

Morton (3-1) won 7-0 over Stanford Olympia on Tuesday. ISU-bound LHP Will Headean (2-0) struck out 15 Spartan hitters in his six-inning gem.

St. Charles East (2-0) defeated West Aurora 6-3 on Tuesday. Senior Luke Ludke (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Fighting Saints.

Benet Academy (1-2) blanked Downers Grove North 2-0 in eight innings, behind senior LHP Chris Sanderson (1-0). Sanderson went all eight innings, shutting out the Trojans on five hits.

Huntley (2-2) blasted Barrington 9-1, behind a three-hitter by senior Craig Klein (1-0). Red Raider senior C Mark Skonieczny hit a long-one for the victorious Red Raiders. Barrington falls to 5-3.

Ottawa (4-0) ripped Newark 16-6 for the Pirates fourth consecutive victory to open the 2012 season.

Lincoln-Way East (3-2) blasted TF South 13-3 behind a six-RBI day for Griffin
