Illinois vs. Pennsylvania

And we are under way here at the University of Illinois for a Sunday edition of the 2012 PBR Midwest Future Games.  The top of the first saw a couple base runners for team PA, but nothing came to fruition as RHP Mitch Vogrin was able to get out of the inning without much trouble.

Bottom 1st: Team IL gets the scoring going early as they plate two runners thanks to a 2 RBI single from Mitch Vogrin.  They would strand two more runners though as Team PA was able to induce an inning ending ground ball to escape with no more damage done.

Top 2nd: Team PA bounces right back with two runs of their own thanks to a collection of hits followed by a a sharp 2 RBI single by Jamie Switalski.

Bottom 2nd: PA RHP Dominic Couci makes easy work of the IL offense as he records a short, crisp, 1-2-3 inning with minimal effort.

Top 3rd: Team IL RHP Riley Pawelski gives up two hits, including an RBI double by Dominic Cuoci.  Cuoci was then thrown out at third to end the inning as he tried to stretch his double into a triple.  After two and a half innings of play it's PA 3 - IL 2.

Bottom 3rd: IL comes right back at PA with another 2 run inning of their own thanks to a triple by Aaron Fuller, followed by consecutive RBI singles from Jake Bartels and Michael Bainbridge.  After 3 complete innings of play, Team IL leads Team PA 4-3.

Top 4th: Team IL gets just what they needed after regaining the lead in the previous half; and quick shutout inning from RHP Riley Pawelski.  He made short work of the PA hitters allowing only 1 man on base and recording a strikeout to end the inning.  Team IL heads in to the bottom of the 4th looking to extend their 4-3 lead.

Bottom 4th: Team IL comes away empty handed as they go down in order with 3 weakly hit balls that never left the infield.  After 4 complete it still stands at IL 4 - PA 3.

Top 5th: Team PA tried hard to get something going with runners on first and second, 1 out, but were unable to plate any runs as Team IL RHP Jake Bartels is able to work out of the situation.

Bottom 5th: The bottom of the 5th saw no runs, and only one hit - a nice oppo double to right by Michael Kornacker.  Other than that, RHP Brandon Birkhead had no problems as he made it all look just so easy.  After 5 innings of play the score remains IL 4 - PA 3.

Top 6th: A short 1-2-3 inning for Team PA as they were unable to move anybody further than first on the base paths.

Bottom 6th: Team IL strikes again, thanks to a double to deep right field off the bat of Aaron Fuller, followed by an RBI single to right by Jake Bartels.  These two guys have really been in the thick of the IL run scoring today.  After 6 complete the score now stands at IL 5 - PA 3.

Top 7th: Team PA has no answer for IL as they go down in succession, 1-2-3.  The bottom of the 7th will go ahead and be played out since this is a showcase and everyone wants to make sure each kid on their respective clubs gets a shot at showing off their talents in front of the many college coaches in attendance here at the University of Illinois.

Bottom 7th: Team IL finishes the game out by pushing across 6 runs in the final frame.  The final score is Team IL 10 - Team PA 3.

OH: Chipping away, Team Ohio cuts deficit to 7-4 heading into bottom of third.

MO: Extends their lead to 4, making it 9-5 in their favor as we head into the bottom half of the 5th.

MO: RHP Cole DuPont works efficiently to make quick work of the 4 hitters faced in the bottom of the 5th.

MO: When it rains it pours.  Team MO continues to lay it on thick as they they push across yet another run in the top of the 7th to make it 10-5 Team MO over Team OH.

Game over.  MO defeats OH 10-5.
