Missouri Underclass Games: Corner Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Underclass Prospect Games on June 14 at the University of Missouri.  Nearly 100 players participated in the 2018 and 2019 class. 

Player profiles have been updated with video, times, velos and profile pictures.  Today we will take a look at the corner infield performances from the event.  Although some corner infielders may have played other positions, this is just a break down of the outfielders performances from the day.  In the days to come we will break down, middle infielders and pitchers.

Corner Infielders

Braxton Bragg, 1B, Liberty, 2019
Bragg is a 6-foot-1 155-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri's 2019 class.  He ran a 7.31 60 and 4.72 home-to-first.  At the plate, repeatable swing, thin stance, short stride, quick and level path, consistent line drive to the middle and pull side of the field, flashed power.  On the infield, athletic actions, quick footwork with quick exchange, accurate throws, 79 mph positional velo.

Carson Buddemeyer, 1B, CBC, 2019
Buddemeyer is a 6-foot-2 205-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.81 60 and 5.28 home-to-first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, leg kick, in line stride, swing produced pull side line drives during batting practice.  At first base, 71 mph positional velo, over the top arm slot, made all plays cleanly, accurate throws, moves well to the ball.

Tommy Burke, 3B, Eureka, 2018
Burke is a 6-foot-1 185-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.49 60 and a 7.49 home-to-first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up with smooth rhythm, short stride with no wasted movement, gap-to-gap approach, loose hands, quick bat speed.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velo, short over the top release, high exchange, fluid footwork works with hands, throws have carry and are accurate.

Jordan Carlson, 1B, Liberty, 2019
Carlson is a 5-foot-9 145-pound left handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.07 60 and a 4.25 home-to-first.  He has a 78 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance with smooth and controlled load into back side, level bat path, swing produced line drives to pull and middle side of the field.  At first base, 69 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, accurate throws, fluid footwork with exchange. 

Peyton Carson, 1B, Shawnee Heights (KS), 2018
Carson is a 6-foot-3 170-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.53 60 and a 4.76 home-to-first.  He has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, gap-to-gap approach at the plate, mostly contact to the middle of the field, repeats swing, short and early stride, long and lean projectable build.  At first base, 81 mph positional velo, moves well to the ball, plays through the catch, high three quarters release, accurate throws.

Matt Dunham, 1B, Francis Howell North, 2018
Dunham is a 6-foot-1 185-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.67 60 and a 5.22 home-to-first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo.  At the plate, solid consistent contact during batting practice, flashed power to pull gap, open stance, smooth and controlled rhythm, swing accelerates through contact, loose hands with bat control.  At first base, 75 mph positional velo, athletic footwork, creates momentum, quick exchange, high three quarters release, accurate throws, with carry.

David Eklund, 3B, Lafayette, 2019
Eklund is a 5-foot-8 135-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.76 60 and a 4.75 home-to-first.  He has a 73 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable, balanced stance with short stride, swing produced consistent contact to the middle of the field.  At third base, 67 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, made all plays cleanly, accurate throws, fluid catch and throw.

Kole Ficken, 3B, Boonville, 2018
Ficken is a 6-foot-2 195-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.37 60 and a 4.37 home-to-first.  He has a 90 mph exit velo. On the infield, aggressive swing, attacks ball, controlled leg kick, power to pull side, quick bat speed.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, loose over the top release, footwork creates momentum though the catch, hands and feet in sync, accurate throws, with carry.

 Reid Hendrickson, 3B, Edwardsville (IL), 2018
Hendrickson is a 6-foot-1 170-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Illinois’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.58 60 and a 5.06 home-to-first.  He has an 85 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic stance, smooth load with some hand load and leg kick, showed feel for the barrel, solid consistent contact to the middle of the field during batting practice.  On the infield, short over the top release, hands and feet work together, clean exchange and quick release, accurate throws with carry, 79 mph.

Evan Hubert, 3B, CBC, 2018
Hubert is a 5-foot-9 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.59 60 and a 5.36 home-to-first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth rhythm with toe touch for timing, level and quick bat path, short to the ball, hands work inside the ball, middle of the field contact.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, long arm circle, quick and aggressive footwork to the ball, plays through the catch, clean exchanges, mostly accurate throws.

Tanner Ledbetter, 3B, Twin Rivers, 2019
Ledbetter is a 5-foot-10 152-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.19 60 and 4.87 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 79 mph.  At the plate, minimal load, oppo approach, hands dominate swing, level swing path.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick glove to hand transfer, mostly accurate throws. 

Noah Pingel, 3B, Francis Howell North, 2018
PIngel is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.44 60 and a 4.74 home-to-first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, quick and level bat path, hard contact up the middle, flashes of pull power.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, over the top arm slot, quick to the ball, momentum through the catch, fluid transfer and release, mostly accurate thows.

Kolten Poorman, 3B, N. St. Francois Co. R-1, 2019
Poorman is a 5-foot-9 187-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.72 60 and a 5.09 home-to-first.  He has an 85 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, short in line stride, strong and aggressive hands, gap-to-gap approach, repeats swing.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick to the ball, quick catch and throw, fluid actions, accurate throws with carry.

Dawson Roberts, 1B, Glendale, 2018
Roberts is a 5-foot-9 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.27 60 and a 4.4 home-to-first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up, smooth load, hands work inside ball, middle to opposite field line drives during batting practice, got an infield hit and lined to shortstop in game action.  At first base, 69 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fluid footwork to the ball, sets feet to throw, mostly accurate, fluid actions.   

Mark Shallenberger, 1B, St. Louis Priory, 2019
Shallenberger is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.31 60 and a 4.54 home-to-first.  He has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, minimal load, attacks ball, showed power to pull side, swing produced solid contact to the pull side of the field.  On the infield, high three quarters release, made all plays cleanly with fluid footwork and clean exchange.

Gage Singer, 3B, Aurora, 2019
Singer is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 7.69 60 and a 4.93 home-to-first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, wide base at set up, smooth load, aggressive swing, consistent solid contact gap-to-gap, showed feel for the barrel.  On the infield, 82 mph positional velo, athletic actions, hands and feet work together, creates momentum through the catch, high three-quarters release, accurate throws. 

Mikey Strong, 3B, St. Thomas Aquinas, 2018
Strong is a 6-foot-2 174-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.74 60 and 4.85 home-to-first.  He has an 87 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH exit velos of the event. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load, quick bat speed, accelerated swing, flashes of pull side power, mostly middle to pull line drives, consistent solid contact.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, short and loose over the top arm action, made all plays cleanly, field ball in athletic position, fluid exchange and throw, accurate throws with carry.

Wyatt Towe, 3B, Rock Bridge, 2019
Towe is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.38 60 and a 4.62 home-to-first.  He has a 74 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance with no wasted movement, swing produced line drives to the middle and pull side of the field, repeats swing, loose hands.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velo, athletic actions, short over the top release, athletic fielding position, feet create momentum through the catch, accurate throws.
