Mount Carmel Breezes Past No. 21 Lane Tech

Mount Carmel hosted No. 21 Lane Tech as part of a makeup game on Saturday afternoon. With a strong pitching performance from their starter and a big offensive day from Julien Hachem, the Caravan would go on to pick up a 10-0 win in six innings over a Power 25 team right before State playoffs are set to begin.

Senior RHP Tom Egan, an Iowa Western CC commit, got the start for Mount Carmel. Egan didn't have his best crisp stuff throughout but he still battled and had a no-hitter entering the fifth inning. Despite walking four batters, Egan pitched all six innings, scattering one hit and striking out seven. Egan, who features a four-pitch mix, sat 86-88 mph, touching 89 with his fastball and mixed in a sweeping an upper-70’s, 10/4 slider, that caused havoc for right-handed hitters, sat mid-upper 70s. He also showed a changeup with fade and sink at 80-82 mph and an 11/5 to 12/6 curveball, with sharp action and depth in the low 70s. 

Mount Carmel (19-10) scored in four of the six innings, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the deal and give the Caravan the 10-0 victory in only six innings. Uncommitted junior Myles Supurgeci led the big sixth inning with a sharply hit double to left center field. Two batters later, sophomore Austin Mallee would single on a fly ball to center field. Sam Delvalle and Colin Horneman both followed with walks to make it bases loaded for Oklahoma commit Julien Hachem. With two outs and a 1-1 count, Hachem delivered a deep grand slam to left center to walk off Lane Tech and end the game. Hachem, most notably known for his prowess on the mound, went 2-for-3, with a home run, double, walk, four RBIs and two runs scored. 

The Caravan added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-0 at the time. With one out, Supurgeci singled home Blainey Dowling. The next batter, Jorge Vazquez singled home Supurgeci and two batters later, Vazquez tagged up on a sacrifice fly to left field from Delvalle.

Mount Carmel scored single runs in the first and third inning. 

Supurgeci went 2-for-3, with a double, two runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base in the win. Austin Mallee finished 2-for-3 as well, with a walk and run scored.
