Nazareth, Bartels too much to handle for Marist

CHICAGO, IL – In an East Suburban Catholic Conference match-up, senior RHP Jake Bartels proved to much to handle for the Marist Red Hawks (12-10, 5-3). Bartels tossed a complete game 2-hit shutout to move the Roadrunners into first place in the ESCC.

Marist, who came into today’s action atop the ESCC, couldn’t get anything going against the senior Bartels. Junior Ryan Kairis and sophomore John Carmody were the only two to touch up Bartels with a hit. Kairis and Carmody were also the only two Red Hawks to get on base, as Bartels did not walk a batter and the Roadrunner defense was flawless. Bartels went on to strike out 10 in the contest.

Ryan Kramer got the offense started in the second with an RBI single. Kramer would finish the day with two hits and two RBI, leading the Nazarteth offense. Kent State commit, Tim DalPorto also chipped in with two hits and Drew Dunker added three RBI, two of which came on a squeeze play.

Marist will try to return the favor as the two teams will face off again on Wednesday at Nazareth in La Grange.
