Northwest Suburban Rising Stars ID: Statistical Analysis and Takeaways

By: Peter Hamot
Area Scout, Staff Writer

On Tuesday, July 5, the PBR Illinois Staff hosted the Northwest Suburban Open: Rising Stars ID at Judson University in Elgin, IL. The event featured players from the 2026-2027 high school graduation classes and gave our staff an early look at some of the players who will be entering the high school ranks soon.

We will be taking a look at the top statistical performers from the event, as well as a few players who stood out to our scouting staff, found below.

Takeaways

INF/OF Kyle Ziebell (Harvest Christian, 2026) impressed throughout the day with one of the best all-around showings. Starting his day off at the plate, the right-handed hitter moved with a simple operation through the zone; using a flat approach angle consistently to put the ball on a line with long/loose arms through contact, spraying the ball to the whole field. On defense, Ziebell plays through the ball athletically from both positions, utilizing soft hands and ranging easily to both sides with a clean transfer. His arm plays with a short/clean circle out of the glove into a high ¾ slot, carrying across the diamond with accurate strikes to his target.

One of the smoothest rounds of defense on the entire day came from INF Jailen Veliz (Yorkville, 2026). The slick-handed defender plays on the balls of his feet with fluid footwork, ranging easily to both sides of his glove. His hands are soft and play through the ball with a clean transfer, moving athletically throughout. At the plate, the right-handed hitter works the whole field with a short/direct path to the ball, looking to put the ball on a line.

INF Beckham Stone (Grayslake Central, 2026) showed some of the best power in attendance during his round of BP. The 6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitter uses a steep approach angle to the ball with extension through contact, producing backspin while staying on the barrel up the middle of the field, also reaching up to 86 mph for his max exit velocity.

As only a rising eighth grader, OF Isaiah Martin (2027) showed our scouting staff that he will be a name to know as he enters the high school ranks in the coming years. At the plate, the loose-limbed right-handed hitter works with a short path to the ball, flashing bat-speed through the zone with a level path, working slightly uphill at times. He has a pull-side approach with pop off the bat, reaching up to 80 mph for his max exit velocity. Martin also showed well defensively; starting off his day by running to a 7.74 60-Yard Dash, he plays aggressively through the baseball with athletic actions, working with steady/reliable hands.
