PBR IL - Rock Valley JC Scout Day: Statistical Analysis

By: Kevin Cronin and Diego Solares
Illinois Scouting Staff

On Tuesday, October 12, the PBR Illinois staff traveled to Rockford, Illinois, to host the Rock Valley College Scout Day. There were 25+ prospects from the Golden Eagles’ roster that participated in a pro-style workout in front of our staff, all of which are still uncommitted.

Today, our scouting staff will begin to roll out all our prototypical post-event content pieces, starting with this statistical analysis. Below we’ll highlight players that put up numbers from a traditional standpoint, such as leaders in the 60-yard dash, max throwing velocities, and other data gathered from the day.

We’ll also roll out more analysis as the week rolls on, like a takeaways piece from the day and deeper data dives with the statistics collected from our technological partners at TrackMan and Blast Motion.

For now, take a look at which players put out noteworthy statistical outputs.

STAT STORY

+ From Neuqua Valley, freshman OF Payton Matthews had been known to our staff as a toolsy, athletic left/left prospect in high school and that skill-set has only amplified since reaching the college ranks. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Matthews breezed to the day’s fastest 60-yard dash time, clocking a 6.46 on our lasers. He recorded the day’s second-hardest hit ball in BP at 94 mph and also led the entire event in outfield throwing velocity, peaking at 86 mph to home.

+ MIF Nick Aide is a lanky 5-foot-11, 170-pound athlete with wiry, whippy strength attached to his levers. A top-80 prospect in Wisconsin’s 2020 class, Aide led all infielders with an 88 mph max across the diamond and he ran a 6.80 in the 60-yard dash, too. INF/RHP Drew Burkholder finished a few ticks below Aide with an 85 mph max throw to first base and the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Burkholder also ran his fastball up to 86 mph during ‘pens.

+ C Matthew Cusumano put together a quality all-around statistical performance during his workout. He ran a 6.98 in the 60-yard dash and led all catchers in both throwing velocity (77 mph) and average pop times (1.94-to-2.15).

+ From Wisconsin, freshman UTL Matt Heinrich worked out at all three defensive positions at this event, finishing towards the top in multiple different statistical categories. Heinrich started his day by running a 7.03 in the 60-yard dash and finished in the top three across all max throwing velocities.

+ The Golden Eagles had six arms top at 86 mph or better with their fastballs, led by RHP Steven Kleyheeg. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound Wisconsin native was the lone arm to peak at 88 mph with his fastball, sitting exclusively at 87-88 mph throughout. RHP Kody Kleve, RHP Michael Spano, and RHP Ryan Wilwers all reached 87 mph high with their fastballs, while the aforementioned Burkholder and RHP AJ Hamilton were up to 86 mph.
