PBR Illinois Player Of The Week: 1B Matthew Albritton

O’Fallon has been one of our top-ranked teams in the state since preseason and they put their ranking on the line last week when they played six games, three of which in the challenging Midwest Select. Fortunately, they had first baseman Matthew Albritton on their side.

Albritton has been one of the No. 2-ranked team’s best bats all season long, so far, and last week was no exception. Albritton helped the Panthers go 5-1 in a busy week of action that included two wins at Midwest Select. The first baseman went 10-for-16 with two homers, a double, and he drove in 10 runs and scored five times himself. He didn’t strike out in his 19 plate appearances last week, either.

He saved his best game of the week for last. Facing perennial power Mason (OH) in the Panthers’ final game of the PBR Midwest Select, Albritton went 4-for-5 with a no-doubt home run in his first at-bat and finished with a total of five RBIs. In the three games at the Midwest Select, Albritton went 6-for-9 with seven RBIs.

On the year, Albritton is slugging .837 and is reaching base at a .629 clip. The junior is becoming one of the more intriguing uncommitted bats in his class because of the white-hot run he’s on. No. 2 O’Fallon currently sits at 17-1-1 on the season after knocking off rival No. 9 Edwardsville 7-6 in extra innings yesterday afternoon.

For his efforts, Matthew Albritton has been named the PBR Player of the Week for the week of April 9-16.

Stay tuned for our Weekly Diamond Notes that will be published this Friday. There we’ll take a look at players who narrowly missed out on a Player of the Week honor but deserve some recognition nonetheless.
