PBR Illinois Player Of The Week: OF Zaid Walker

Zaid Walker, the No. 2 ranked prospect in Illinois and No. 89-ranked prospect in the nation’s senior class, has been awarded our latest PBR Illinois Player of the Week honor. After just missing out on the award last week, Walker had his own personal home run derby last week to slug his way to the honor today. The Michigan State commit somehow topped his heroics in the first week of May with a six homers and 18 RBIs last week.

Like previously stated, he's been a wrecking ball at the plate.

Since April 30, Walker has smacked nine home runs and has driven in 28 runs. Some unreal video game-like numbers for the Homewood-Flossmoor product.

The Vikings lost just twice in their first two weeks of May and their star outfielder was an overwhelming reason why. On May 7 against Bolingbrook, Walker homered and drove in three. He hit two more homers against the Raiders on May 9 and drove home six this time. He managed to top that line the very next day against Richards with a 4-for-4 game in which he mashed three homers, including a grand slam, and tallied nine RBIs.

Stay tuned for our Weekly Diamond Notes that will be published this Friday. There we’ll take a look at players who narrowly missed out on a Player of the Week honor but deserve some recognition nonetheless.
