PBR Illinois Player of the Week: INF Mikey Kocen

By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

Warren junior infielder Mikey Kocen has been named this week’s PBR Illinois Player of the Week thanks to his outstanding performance last week for the Blue Devils.

Kocen, an uncommitted junior, currently ranked No. 68 in the Illinois’ 2020 class, had one of the best single game offensive performances in recent memory. On Thursday, March 21st, in a 17-8 win over Palatine, Kocen did all of his offensive damage needed for the award. Kocen finished the game 4-for-5 with a grand slam, three-run home run, two doubles, nine RBI’s and a stolen base.

Despite an 0-4 performance in the other Warren game last week, his one game, video-game type performance, was impressive enough to take home this week’s Player of the Week award. Last year, as a sophomore, Kocen hit .361 with 10 doubles, three triples and 29 RBI. Warren HS is currently 4-2 on the year and are scheduled to play Dundee-Crown and Grayslake North later this week.

For his efforts, Kocen has been named the PBR Player of the Week for the week of March 18 - March 23.
