PBR Illinois Player of the Week: OF Adison Worthman

Bloomington sophomore Adison Worthman is the top-ranked uncommitted prospect in the state’s 2023 class – which is really saying something, as this group is shaping up to be a memorable one. Worthman’s impact tools have been showing themselves all spring in his first season at the varsity level. He slugged a no-doubt homer in his IHSA debut on Opening Day, and has been very productive since, now operating as his team’s primary center fielder, even for a player his size, listed at a physical 6-foot-2, 230 pounds. His Week 6 performance stands alone, however, as his best to work to date, as his right-handed bat guided the Raiders to a 6-0 week, as well as the individual PBR Illinois POTW honor.

In his team’s six wins last week against Brooks College Prep (twice), Peoria, Peoria Notre Dame, and Richwoods (twice), Worthman was a combined 10-for-16 with three home runs, generating 12 RBIs, and he added eight stolen bases as well, all while captaining the outfield from center error-free. Of the seven hits Worthman tallied that did not travel over the fence, three went for triples and he recorded one double as well, totaling seven extra-base hits in Bloomington’s undefeated Week 6 action.

Here’s a scouting report published last fall by PBR National Crosschecker Shooter Hunt, complimenting Worthman’s electric skillset:

Adison Worthman OF / Bloomington, IL / 2023

From 9/28/20: “The sheer raw ability of Worthman is sure to have college coaches glued to his games moving forward as they envision him as a key run-producer in their lineups. As physically-gifted as any player in the class, Worthman runs a 6.57 60-yard dash to go along with a 103+ mph exit velocity per Trackman. At 6-foot-2, 230-pounds, he impacts the baseball with great force before turning up top speed in  an instant. The bat speed is electric, producing eye-opening power, and while there is some rawness to the  approach right now, the upside is immense, and in-game at-bats should quickly allow him to approach a high ceiling.

For his efforts, Worthman has been named the PBR Illinois Player of the Week, for the week of Saturday, May 15 through Sunday, May 23. We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within Friday's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.
