PBR/BOMC 15U Midwest Championships



Below is a compilation of scouting notes throughout the PBR/BOMC 15U Midwest Championship from July 13-July 17.

COLLINSVILLE EXTREME

Noah Scrum, RHP, 2019
Solidly built, right-handed pitcher. Short, clean, over-the-top arm action, finishes towards first base. Fastball worked mostly straight, some life when down, sat 77-82 mph. Curveball sat 62-64 mph, lacked command.

Evan Anderson, Triad, 2019
6-foot-4, 205-pound, hulking, switch-hitter. Offensively, hit only from the left-side in this game. Hit a run scoring single to right in his first at-bat. Squared a ball up, right at the shortstop in his second at-bat. Simple swing, uses the whole field.

Crystal Lake Cardinals – White

Jacob Young, RHP, Benet, 2019
Right-handed pitcher with an undersized, solid build. Short, quick arm action. Attacks hitter with fastball/curveball combination. Fastball sat 74-77 mph. Feel and confidence in curveball, thrown often and at any time, 65-67 mph; 11/5 shape, depth and sharp action. Offensively, right-handed hitter; consistent hard contact. Lined two balls, one for a single into right-center field.

Ryan Ignoffo, SS, Cary Grove, 2018
Strong, solidly built, right-handed hitting shortstop. Defensively, good lateral range, steady hands and plenty of arm to stick on the left side of the infield. Throws from multiple arm angels, strong arm with carry. Offensively, hits in the three hole. Strength through contact, ball jumps off bat at times; lined a run-scoring triple into the right-center field gap; 4.69 on the turn. Hard ground out to short stop in his second at-bat; 4.50 down-the-line.

Ben Maxey, OF, North Boone, 2019
Long, lean, projectable frame, left-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively, flashed bat speed at the plate. Lined out to right field in his second at-bat. Slightly open setup, compact swing. Long easy strider running the bases.

Trevor Keegan, RF, Crystal Lake South, 2019
Extra-large, imposing, hulking, right-handed hitting right-fielder. Flashed pull pop at the plate; Drove a ground rule double to left field in his first at-bat. Also, lined a single to right field. Open setup, smooth load and strength through contact.

Hunter Rumachik, Huntley, 2019
Left-handed hitter with a long, lean, projectable frame. Offensively, simple, balanced and calm setup. Good plate discipline, rarely chased out of the zone; Walked three times and stole two bases.

Hunter Consigny, 2B, N/A, 2019
Undersized, second baseman. Offensively, left-handed hitter, balanced setup. Went 2-for-2 with a walk and scored two runs.

AJ Henkle, C, 2019
Average frame. Right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate, 1-2 with a double and a hard line out to center. Open set up, leg kick stride, strong swing. Defensively, 2.28 pop time.

Elite Baseball Training- City Premier

Nick Valle, OF, Notre Dame, 2018
Athletic frame. Offensively, hit lead off. Singled to left to lead off the game. Even set up, pre pitch rhythm. 4.65 runner on a ground out. Defensively, played centerfield and made a diving catch.

Gabe McCall, C, Maine South, 2019
5-foot-8, 140-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively, simple compact swing. Hit two hard line drives to the opposite field in his first two at-bats. Balanced, square setup and stays within himself.

ESP SELECT RED

Sean Rivera, SS, Plainfield East, 2019
Athletically built, left-handed hitting shortstop. Hit in the two-hole. Hitterish look in the box; bat stays flat through the hitting zone. Lined out to right-field in his first at-bat.

Eric Brociek, RHP, Joliet Catholic, 2019
Right-handed pitcher with a lean frame. Came out of the bullpen. Loose, whippy arm action out of a high ¾ slot. Repeatable delivery, stays on-line. Fastball sat 70-72 mph, topped at 73.

FCA IMPACT ELITE

Brett Potter, RHP, 2019
Undersized, right-handed pitcher. Spun a complete game, allowed no earned runs, struck out three and allowed just three hits. At the plate, added a line drive single.

Luke Roman, SS, 2020
Wiry, shortstop. Defensively, flashed lateral agility, fielded position cleanly, made every play, steady hands, and an accurate arm from a ¾ slot. Offensively, open setup, pre-pitch rhythm; went 1-2 with a single.

GRB Rays - Green

Bennett Frazer, INF, Oconto, 2019
Right-handed hitting infielder, athletic frame. Defensively, fluid footwork, soft hands, plays though the baseball. Short, accurate arm from a high ¾ arm slot. Offensively, open setup, gap-to-gap approach. Went 3-for-4 on the day with two singles and a double. Also scored three runs.

Jack Krumbach, Madison Memorial, 2019
Left-handed hitting infielder, lanky, projectable frame, moves well. Offensively, slightly open setup, flashed a quick bat, pull approach. Went 1-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs. Slight uphill swing path with good barrel control and plate discipline. Showed plus bat speed with some pop. 4.56 on the turn.

Drake Baldwin, Madison West, 2019
Left-handed hitting catcher, strong, projectable frame. Offensively, open setup, flashed bat speed, pull approach. Pullside pop Went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. Defensively, quiet receiver, accurate arm, pop times ranged from 2.12-2.25 with carry.

Max Bruff, Indian Trail, OF, 2019
Right-handed-hitting outfielder, strong, athletic frame. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, flashed bat speed and power. Exit velocity has been clocked at 90 mph in the past. Went 1-for-3 with a home run to center field. Simple mechanics with easy power. barrel awareness with consistent hard contact.

Tucker Cole, INF, Dixon, 2019
5-foot-10, 145-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Offensively, even set up, rhythm, line drive approach. Hit a single to left field. Showed plate discipline, drew two walks. Defensively, advanced for age. Soft hands, quick feet, shows athleticism at position, works through the baseball. Arm can stick at shortstop.

Graham, Arndt, INF, Monona Grove (WI), 2019
5-foot-6, 120-pound left handed hitting infielder. Offensively, slightly open set up, short stride, balance. Line drive approach, sprayed the ball to all fields. Reached base all three times. Hit an opposite field double and singled. Defensively, soft hands, quick exchange. Second base type.

Mitchell Woelfle, RHP, Janesville Craig, 2019
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed pitcher with a durable frame. Works from a high ¾ to over the top arm angle. Slide step from the stretch with a toe closed landing.  Fastball sat 79-82 reaching back for 83s and 84s when he needed it with some effort at times. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 67-68 mph.

Jimmy Juergenson, 1B, Living Word (WI), 2019
Left-handed hitter with a physical strong build. Offensively, flashed pull power; drove a ball to deep right-center field in his first at-bat.

Hitting Center Arsenal

Braydon Smith, SS, New Berlin, 2019
5-foot-7, 140-pound, right-handed hitting shortstop. Lead off type player. Works counts and finds a way on base. Drew a walk after a 9 pitch at bat. Hits from a balanced, crouched setup. Defensively, attacks the baseball, carry on throws across the diamond. Finished the day 1-2 with an RBI.

Logan Shepard, C, Maroa-Forsyth, 2018
5-foot-11, 175-pound, athletic, strong bodied, left-handed hitting catcher. Defensively, on field general, showed arm strength, consistently throwing between 2.18-2.22 pop times in between innings. In game, threw a runner out at third trying to advance on a dirt ball. Offensively, crouched, balanced setup, smooth swing, consistently barreled pitches, finished the day 2-3 with a triple.

Aaron Agee, RHP, Maroa-Forsyth, 2019
5-foot-10, 150-pound, lanky, right-handed pitcher. High ¾ window, lands slightly closed, clean arm action. Fastball, flashed arm side run, ranged between 74-76, topped 77 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, sweeping action, some depth. Flashed a changeup with arm side run, ranging between 64-65 mph.

Homer Heat

Mike McGuire, 3B, Romeoville, 2018
Solid frame. Offensively, even set up and strength through contact. Pull side approach. Showed power with deep home run to left field. Defensively, played third base; feel for the position. Average arm strength across the diamond.

Dan Cappello, CF, Lockport, 2019
Athletically built, right-handed hitting centerfielder. Hit in the 5-hole. Balanced setup, slight lift in swing, consistent barrel. Smoked two balls into the left center gap. Finished 2-3 on the day with a double and an rbi triple.

Christian Ransom, LF, Thornton, 2019
Smaller framed, right-handed hitting outfielder. Hit in the 3-hole. Balanced set up, simple approach. Barreled a ball into the right center gap for a triple. Showed athleticism running 4.47 from home to first on a ground ball to second base.

Huntley Blue American

Eli Paplanus, RHP, 2019
Projectbale right-handed pitcher. Came out of the bullpen to face one hitter. Long, loose and quick arm action out of a high ¾ slot. Repeatable delivery, slight cross fire action, lands square and finishes athletically. Fastball sat 78-79 mph. Looks to have more in the tank. 2019 follow on the mound.

Michael Boland, OF, Huntley, 2019
Athletic frame. Right-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively, even set up, pre-pitch rhythm, short swing, line drive approach, spray hitter. Went 3-4 with a double. Hit lead off. Defensively, played centerfield. Showed feel. Tracked down ball deep in the gap. Above-average runner; 4.3 home to first.

Connor Fitzgerald, 1B, Huntley, 2019
Lanky frame, plenty of room to fill in. At the plate, went 3-4 with two doubles off the wall. Even set up, quick hands, strong swing. Defensively, showed feel around the bag at first base.

Dylan Janke, RHP/INF, Huntley, 2019
Solid, athletic frame. On the mound, quick arm, high ¾ slot, regular effort. Fastball sat 78-81 mph. Curveball, sat 69-71 mph, 11/5 action, potential to be putout pitch. At the plate, right-handed hitter, slightly open set up, even path. Hit in the 4-hole. Went 3-4, three singles. 2019 two-way follow.

IL Celtics

Robert Jackman, OF, Lincoln Way West, 2019
Athletic, projectable frame. Plenty of room for continued physical development. Right-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively, even set up, rhythm, long swing. Flashed a pull-side approach; lined a single at left fielder. Finished 2-for-3. Defensively, played left field. Showed feel at position. Flashed arm strength on throw home from deep left field. Aggressive on base paths, stole two bases.

IL Chargers

Diego Koval, RHP, St. Rita, 2019
Athletic frame with room to fill out. High ¾ slot, quick arm speed, short action, regular effort. Fastball sat 77-79 mph. Curveball, sat 63-66 mph, 11/5 action, tight spin, depth, will throw in any count, command, out pitch.

Illinois Hitmen

Jake Pileggi, Downers Grove South, 2019
Average build, right-handed hitter. Made consistent hard contact. Went 2-for-2 on the day with a line-drive single to left-field and a run-scoring single to right-center.

Anthony Nalbono, South Elgin, 2020
Strong, advanced frame for his age, right-handed hitter. Drove a double into the right-center field gap.

Logan Romansanta, C, South Elgin, 2019
Solid frame with strength in the lower half. Present arm strength behind the plate, accurate throws. Back picked one runner at first in game. Strong hands receicning with flexibility in the lower half creating a low target for pitchers. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short, direct swing path and leverage through contact. Hit a homer run to left centerfield.

Garrett Wano, SS, South Elgin, 2019
Lanky, right-handed hitter. Offensively, hits in the three hole and went 2-for-2 with a double down the left-field line. Line-drive, pull approach at the plate. Defensively reliable hands and longer arm action from an over-the-top slot.

IL SPARKS

Christian Knapczyk, SS, Joliet Catholic, 2020
Undersized shortstop. Should be a high follow middle infielder moving forward. Plays the game with energy. Defensively, quick feet, good range and soft hands. Strong arm, flashed carry, plenty strong enough to stick on the left-side of the infield. Offensively, left-handed hitter with quick hands and fluid rhythm throughout. Controls barrel; athletic setup, pre-pitch rhythm. Line-drive single to left field in his last at-bat; 4.62 home-to-first on the turn. Also, aggressive on the bases. Stole two bases and advanced on balls in the dirt.

Jack Payton, LF, N/A, 2020
Right-handed hitting outfielder with a strong frame. Offensively, present bat speed and flashed hard contact. Barreled a two-run double to deep left-center field in his second at-bat. Starts from an open, crouched setup, strides to even. High follow 2020.

Dylan Post, C, Lincoln-Way Central, 2019
Physically advanced, left-handed hitting catcher. One of the top catchers in the 2019 class. Offensively, flashed, looseness and easy pop in his bat; flew out to deep left field in his first at-bat. Opposite field approach, stays inside the baseball. Defensively, strong accurate arm, true ball. Pop times ranged between 2.08-2.18 in between innings.

Zach Stoner, 3B, Minooka, 2019
Wiry, right-handed hitting third baseman. Defensively, reliable infielder. Made plays look easy throughout the game; good body control, soft hands, clean exchange and an accurate arm. Offensively, a lot of hard contact; line-drive, gap-to-gap approach. Went 2-for-3 on the day with a double.

Alex Helmin, CF, Providence Catholic, 2019
Long and lean, projectable outfielder. Offensively, right-handed hitter, hits in the three hole. Calm approach, easy effort in swing with looseness. Hit a double to right-center field in his third at-bat. Long, easy strides on the bases. High follow 2019 outfielder.

Matt Callahan, RHP, St. Rita, 2019
Projectable, right-handed pitcher. Clean delivery, works slightly across his body, lands closed. Fastball sat 74-76 mph. Flashed feel for a curveball, 65-68 mph. Pitched four shutout innings, allowing two hits, while striking out three.

Cole Kirschsieper, LHP, Lincoln-Way, 2019
Wiry, left-handed pitcher. Long and loose arm action. Repeatable delivery, quick tempo and easy effort throughout. Fastball flashed arm-side-run and sat 77-80 mph in his one inning stint. 2019 arm to follow.

Justin McGuigan, C, Plainfield South, 2019
5-foot-7, 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Small frame, hit lead off. Three hits including a bunt single. Showed aggression on the base paths, stole two bases. Defensively, soft hands behind the plate; clocked at 2.25 pop time.

Ryan Ritter, SS, 2019
Lean, projectable frame. Right-handed hitting defensive minded shortstop. Soft hands, smooth, quick exchange, arm will stick at shortstop. Feet work quick, flashed lateral agility. At the plate, nine-hole hitter, flashed a quick bat; hit a deep lineout at left fielder. 2019 follow.

Lincoln-Way Vipers

Joey Pakula, RHP/3B, Lincoln-Way West, 2018
Athletically built two-way prospect. Came out of the bullpen. Whippy, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Strike thrower. Fastball sat 73-76 mph, touched 78 once. Breaking ball clocked at 61-64 mph. Offensively, right-handed hitter, reached base in his first two at-bats and scored a run.

Casey Schilf, 1B, Lincoln-Way East, 2019
Durable, solidly built left-handed hitting first baseman. Singled, doubled and tripled in his first three at-bats. Drove two line drives to left field and turned on a triple down the right-field line. Gap-to-gap approach, hits the ball where it is pitched and strength through contact.

LOCKPORT VIPERS

Bentley, SS, 2019
Strong right-handed hitting shortstop. Smooth defender, flashed athletic actions and an accurate arm. Offensively, went 1-for-3 with a barreled single in his last at bat. 4.61 down-the-line on a groundout to second.

Michiana Scrappers

Nathan Mullen, RHP, Bremen (IN), 2019
Thick, durable, strong, right-handed pitcher. Long, loose and quick arm action from a high ¾ slot. Repeatable delivery, with rhythm, and stays on-line. Fastball, thrown for strikes, mostly straight action, sat 78-81 mph and touched 82. Flashed a breaking ball at 63-65 mph. 2019 arm to follow.

Brycen Sherwood, SS, Elkhart Central (IN), 2019
Wiry, left-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively, sees the ball deep; good plate discipline, doesn’t try to do too much and loose, easy effort throughout. Level bat path, extension through contact and consistent hard contact. Relaxed, balanced setup. Hit a line drive to center field in his first at-bat and lined to center in his second at-bat.

Jamie Stouder, INF, Bremen (IN), 2019
Well-proportioned, right-handed hitter. Led off for the Scrappers. Flashed bat speed and pull power; barreled a triple and a double to left field. Aggressive hitter with natural lift in swing.

Mason Troyer, C, Northridge, 2018         
Solid frame. Offensively, hit in the 4-hole. Even set up, strong swing, gap-to-gap approach. Went 3-3 with three singles. Behind the plate, agile blocker. Showed feel controlling game. Pop time of 2.18. 2018 follow.

Midwest Rangers

Michael Bohlen, RHP, Marian Catholic, 2019
Solidly built, right-handed pitcher with a projectable frame. On the mound, long arm action, repeats delivery and stays in line with home plate. Fastball sat 75-76 mph. Offensively, right-handed hitter; laced a line drive to right-center field which turned into an inside-the-park homerun.

Kyle Wisch, 2B, Hinsdale Central, 2019
Right-handed hitter with an advanced frame. Offensively, strength through contact and some natural lift in swing. Went 1-for-2 with a bases clearing double to deep left-center field.

Garret Manous, CF, Munster, 2019
Wiry, right-handed hitting outfielder. Reached base in all three plate appearances. Hit an RBI triple down the left-field line.

Zack Gould, Joliet Catholic, 2019
Strong, solid, athletically framed, left-handed hitter. High-ceiling at the plate. Present bat speed and strength through contact. Short to the ball and extension through contact. Went 1-for-2 on the day with a line-drive single to right field and a walk. High follow 2019 left-handed bat.

Nick Iannatone, OF, Joliet Catholic, 2019
Left-handed hitter with a strong build, defined lower half. Offensively, ball jumps off his bat. Ability to drive the ball to the opposite field. Made consistent hard contact. Drove to balls on a line to the opposite field. 2019 follow.

Kyle Wisch, RHP, Hinsdale Central, 2019
Currently ranked No. 5 in the Illinois Class of 2019. 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall slow paced delivery. Works in line with home plate, good balance throughout. Easy effort. Fastball sat 82-84 mph. Curveball sat 68-70 mph with depth, showed ability to throw it for strikes.

Naperville Renegades

Cliff Vickers, OF, Naperville North, 2019
Solid, athletic build. Left/left outfielder. Even set up, smooth stride, stayed through the ball. Gap to gap, line drive approach. 1-2 on the day with a hard hit single, hit in the three hole. Defensively, played centerfield.

Northern Knights

Hayden Brotz, 1B, Stevenson, 2019
Physical, right-handed hitter. Present bat speed and makes consistent hard contact. Hit an RBI triple into the right-center gap in his second at-bat, 4.94 on the turn.

Michael Chialdikas, SS, Lake Zurich, 2019
Wiry, left-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively, controls the barrel, sprayed line-drives all over the field. Dropped the barrel on a down and in fastball and drove a single to right in his first at-bat. In his third at-bat, took a pitch out over the plate and lined a single to left, 4.79 on the turn. Defensively, steady hands and accurate arm across the diamond.

Brendan King, INF, Libertyville, 2019
Average build, right-handed hitter. Offensively, flat bat, stays through the hitting zone; a lot of hard contact. Barreled a groundball to shortstop in his first at-bat. Lined a singled to left in his second at-bat. 5-foot-8, 155-pound right-handed hitting third baseman with an athletic frame. Balanced, crouched setup at the plate. Short swing path with good feel for the barrel. Line drive hitter makes consistent hard contact. 4.51 down the line. Went 3-4 in game including the game winning walk off RBI single.

Jason Sayre, CF, Lake Zurich, 2019
Athletically built, right-handed hitting, outfielder. Three hits including a deep two-run home run over the left-field fence. Short bat path, consistent hard contact and quick twitch in swing.

PBA Wisconsin

Josh Leslie, SS, Central, 2018
Right-handed hitting, middle infield prospect. Offensively, athletic setup, slight uphill bat path, inside out approach. Went 1-3 on the day. Defensively, impressed with athletic actions, soft and quick hands, body control, and consistent throws with carry. Showed off his arm strength with a play deep in the hole. Also, ran a 4.38 home to first.

Colin Kalinowski, C, Oak Creek, 2019
Left-handed hitting catcher. Athletic catching stance, flashed arm strength, quick release, 2.26 pop time in warm ups, threw a runner out at second from his knees. Finished the day 1-3 with a stolen base.

Ivan Schimanski, 2B, Shoreland, 2019
Wiry, right-handed hitting, middle infielder. High energy player, on field leader. Open stance, leg lift timing mechanism. Flashed ability to range laterally, soft hands, athletic actions. On the day finished 1-3 with a double down the third base line.

Pro Player Canes

Blake Ottaviano, INF, Huntley, 2019
Solid frame. Right-handed hitting infielder. Hit in the 5-hole. Even set up, strong swing for age. Line-drive single at the left-fielder in his first at bat. Defensively, showed feel at third base. Arm strength across the infield.

Rhino Baseball

Collin Woulfe, SS, N/A,
5-foot-9, 160-pound, middle infielder. Defensively, sure handed infielder, attacks the baseball, plays through it, consistent throws across the diamond. At the plate, right-handed bat, hits from a balanced stance, went 1-3 on the day with a line drive to centerfield.

Brennan Geers, 1B, Providence Catholic, 2019
6-foot-1, 180-pound, athletic, strong bodied, left-handed hitting first baseman. At the plate, smooth swing, slight lift, strong contact. Went 1-3 on the day, ending the game with a walk-off ground rule double in deep right field.

Dylan Szajkovics, RHP, Plainfield North, 2019
5-foot-10, 140-pound, lanky, right-handed pitcher. High ¾ arm slot, high leg kick, smooth, repeatable, delivery. Attacked the zone, threw a three pitch mix. Fastball, slight arm side run, sat 74-76 mph. Curveball, sweeping shape, ranged between 65-67 mph. Changeup, showed life when down, clocked between 66-67 mph.

Rockford Big Dogs

Johnny Beck, LHP, Rochelle, 2019
Lanky left-handed pitcher. On the mound works form a ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall online delivery with good balance throughout and easy effort. Fastball sat 75-77 mph. Curveball has 1-7 shape with depth at 62-64 mph. Threw a complete game shutout allowing just five hits.

Top Tier Americans

Nathan Rintz, RHP, Schaumburg, 2019
6-foot-155-pound right-handed pitcher with a lanky, athletic frame. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a long, loose arm action. Athletic, drop and drive delivery works in line with home plate. Fastball sat 81-82 mph with late running life. Changeup showed that same running action, thrown with fastball arm speed at 72-73 mph.

Top Tier Nationals - Sallee

Nicholas Talarico, 3B, Marmion, 2019
Right-handed hitting, third baseman with a solid, well-proportioned frame. Offensively, uses the whole field; went 2-for-4 with a line drive single up the middle and single to right field. Open setup, pre-pitch rhythm and some looseness in swing.

Dolan Glasgow, 2B, Joliet Catholic, 2019
Undersized right-handed hitter. Leadoff. Went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Simple, compact swing. Open setup, rhythm throughout, barrel control type hitter. Defensively, flashed fluid feet and an accurate arm on the infield.

Triple Crown Royals

Avery Fisher, INF, Ontario (OH), 2019
5-foot-8, 155-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Smaller frame. Offensively, hit lead off. Was 4-4 with two doubles and two singles. Slightly open set up, pre-pitch rhythm. Strong swing for size. Line drive approach. Defensively, played shortstop. Soft hands, quick, smooth transfer. Arm flashed carry on throw from deep in hole. 4.51 runner home to first. 2019 follow.

Brett Carson, CF, Teays Valley (OH), 2018
Athletically built, left-handed hitting center fielder. Went 2-for-3 at the plate. Hit a run scoring double to deep left field in his first at-bat. Bunt single in his third bat, 4.3 home-to-first.

Garret Gray, Circleville (OH), 2019
Strong bodied, left-handed hitting catcher. Hit in the four hole. Flashed bat speed and looseness. Quiet, open setup, patient approach. Walked twice scored a run and flew out to right field.

Mason Bowers, OF, Hilliard Darby (OH), 2019   
Big body. Right-handed hitting outfielder. 3-3, single away from the cycle. Sprayed the ball. Line drive approach. Showed pull side pop on homerun to left. Even set up, back load.
